honestly, yeah. We said this about Baalke until we realized he was ass.

But I will say that Lynch was amazing in trading down one pick and acquired 3 in the process, while getting arguably the 2nd or 3rd most talented player with the 31st pick. We've been screaming for Baalke to do that for a while, but the only time he traded up into the first was for garnett.

Lynch played his hand very well.

He started well before the draft by letting everyone know there were teams that were interested in moving to the #2 slot. That continued right into yesterday. All that created a situation where the Bears, in desperate need of a QB after losing all of their QBs, had to outbid everyone else that might have wanted the #2 spot. Lynch knew all this and when the Bears called I could imagine he just said, "I have other offers and little time so make your best offer. If it is better than the rest you have your guy." Chicago really didn't have a choice. They had to overpay in draft points because the need was too great not to do so.

In the end, it was a combination of circumstances created by the need of other teams and Lynch having done his homework by creating the image of a feeding frenzy for the spot. Excellent work.

To top that off, we get to move up to get Foster without having to give up any draft capital that we have going into the draft. IOW, Lynch moved up to get Foster for free.

If you don't like that stuff then take a time out.

Is this good, bad or not matter?

It's good.

KS can focus on the job of coaching, knowing he is going to get the groceries he needs to cook up the stew.

It all starts with the two of them trusting each other. Shanahan will have plenty of time to talk to the press when the season starts. Right now the news is the draft and that is largely a FO function so Lynch is the natural face of that.

Good! I mean that was 100% one of the reasons they liked the partnership.
Filled some holes on defense while also acquiring extra picks, well done. But now get some playmakers on offense, please and thank you.

Just reading through the press conference transcript. This is great, you've got to love Lynch!

Q: He said he wants to be the next Patrick Willis. Do you see similar traits?

-LYNCH: I've told you what I think about Reuben, but I hope he's the next Patrick Willis. We'd be doing really well.

Kyle and I were both trying to talk Patrick Willis out of retirement at Winter Fest because he looks so good. We would not be doing bad at all…

I love that they went after Patrick.

If they conjured this trade out of thin air, I am not sure if I will be in awe or worried...on one hand holy s**t, on the other if word gets out that you lied?

It is as intended. Media-savvy Lynch is the front guy, the face of the franchise, coaches get left alone to do their thing in the background.

From what I've heard over the years, yes getting caught BS'ing another team in that kind of way is frowned upon heavily and can have a negative impact down the road in making other deals, with agents, etc.

But I have a hard time believing that a guy who seems to be a straight shooter like Lynch would scam a team like that, especially on the first deal of his first draft.

you still need a corner and a safety in my opinion and another linebacker would not hut

This will be his true test. Even Baalke didn't f**k up getting Buckner. The offense selections will prove his worth.

Teams do not often admit to their failures. If I tried to move up for a QB and did not get it done, I would want to keep that a secret too. No need for your current QB to know how close they were to losing their job.
Part of the strategy, It was up to the Bears to figure that out.
