John Lynch - 49ers GM

Yeah, my take is o-line, o-line and more o-line.

Give Brock time and he can beat teams up 3rd tier wrs. Give him a run game and they will move the ball in the post season.

this team needs to get back to the days we did not see free shots on the QB without the defense sending 6.

I just looked at the #1 overall draft picks since 2000. Twelve never lived up to their billing and several were total failures. Some were out of the leaugue withing 4 years. Another 3 or so are still trying to live up to being picked that high.

If teams can miss this badly on the #1 overall pick is it any surprise that it's even harder when you pick at the end of the round?

yes, even a 1st round pick is not a guaranteed starter. The draft is a lottery.

By the way Bud49, I was under the impression that most of the talent evaluation is done by the scouts. If poor old John is doing all the talent evaluation, what on earth do the scouts do to pass the idle hours?

Truth of the matter is, everybody gets stuck in to assess the draft prospects. But when the zone is looking to drop the blame, it's Lynch or Shanahan.
Could it be John is drafting useable players but they are not getting coached up? Me personally I think John is not doing a good job at drafting. And I'm hoping he has a draft like the one the 49ers had in 1986 (and I did say hope)

Meh outside of this year, he's been near the top in deep ball passing.

I wouldn't call Addison just a deep ball WR either. Similar skill set to Emmanuel Sanders. He's just an idiot off field apparently.

he wouldn't be my first choice, absolutely depends on the compensation

You can say that until your blue in the face…outside of LG every single guy that started this year will be starting next yr

Which is depressing considering how many perfectly fitting centers will be available in the draft.

Part of the issues with our run game this year can be attributed to Kyle's instance in force feeding CMC and his decline as a RB.

You have to remember Puni was playing on a busted knee all season. He toughed it out.

So a fit Puni and a new LG could make a serious impact.

throw in a competent center and you'd be cooking.

Grant Cohn rumor (take it with a grain of salt) SF is looking to make a trade for a WR and try to move up in the draft. One name they've had discussions for is Jordan Addison

Speed doesn't mean just go routes…

Also Brock did very well throwing deep when he had Aiyuk at his best in 2023.

Speed also has to be accounted for which helps the overall offense and makes it harder for defenses to sit on certain routes.
Addison has 3 seasons in the NFL and has been arrested 3 times.......yeah getting him sounds like a great idea

Ill never understand why the 9ers could not run a double headed monster like detroit or chicago.

Also I think Jordan James is a beat waiting to be unleashed. (unsure about his blocking though)

personally never cared for Guerendo but still worth getting him out there sometimes.

Because we don't have that double headed monster. Brian Robinson is a far cry from David Montgomery.

This is not a Kyle thing, teams who have a dominant RB use them a lot too. Eagles Tank Bigsby (who's on par talent level wise with Brian) had 58 carries as their backup (3rd string RB had 14, 4th string 12) Brian almost had double the amount of carries that Tank had (with 98)

Colts, back up RB had 26 carries, their 3rd string 14 carries, and their 4th string 9....

I'm sure that if teams like those or the Ravens, Bills, ATL, had a very solid backup RB, 90% of the carries wouldn't just go to their star RB either.

This for sure! But unfortunately, Foerster / Shanny hates this idea since it means benching or getting rid of their love-child
Late round Edge or WR incoming.

Considering how little we play our rookie WR's though we may look to FA for that.

So I'm leaning towards a first round Edge. Better pick a good one.
