Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk believes the San Francisco 49ers may have another future gold jacket winner in Christian McCaffrey.
Appearing this week on The Rich Eisen Show, Faulk first expressed his excitement over 49ers legend Roger Craig finally earning induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Faulk admitted he wonders whether he could have done more to highlight Craig's impact on the game.
"Did I not do enough to highlight what he did, to get him in sooner?" Faulk said.
Craig was one of Faulk's early inspirations and helped shape his approach to the position. While Craig's enshrinement is long overdue, Faulk sees no such doubt when it comes to McCaffrey's Hall of Fame trajectory.
When Eisen asked whether the 49ers' star running back would one day be inducted, Faulk didn't hesitate.
"Yes, no doubt. No doubt," Faulk said. "All he has to do is just continue to play the game, Rich. That's him. And what he did this year, without all the guys, with a lot of guys banged up, multiple quarterbacks—he was the consistent component."
After an injury-shortened 2024 season in which he played just four games, McCaffrey delivered a dominant bounce-back campaign. The 49ers running back totaled 2,126 yards from scrimmage and 17 touchdowns, earning AP Comeback Player of the Year honors.
"He was the heartbeat. He was the constant," Faulk added. "I just like his availability, Rich. The kid plays hard every time he's out on the field."
Asked what aspects of McCaffrey's game remind him of himself, Faulk's answer was simple: "Everything."
Faulk also praised McCaffrey's willingness to seek advice from former players like himself and continue refining his craft.
"I think, being around the game, obviously, because of his lineage and his upbringing around the game, but he's not afraid to ask the questions," Faulk said. "I just love how he carries himself, too."
If McCaffrey continues producing at a high level, the 49ers may be watching another future Hall of Famer build his legacy in real time.
