Never happen.

I know lol I'm actually hoping we trade for Hendrickson

Doubt that happens as well

Ya that's not gonna happen. If he's on the trade block, then there's plenty of teams that will offer up a lot.

I expect a Charles Omenihu-esque move, which is much better than nothing. I don't know about the cap numbers, but John Lynch should give the Colts a call and see if they're open to trading Samson Ebukam. I can't imagine it would cost much. That guy was sooo underrated around here.

Chubb could be a possibility, but I'm not sure what their asking price will be.

Imo, the best one we could do is Cam Jordan. Shouldn't have to give up too much and I'm sure he would love a chance to compete on a winning team.

Yeah, I think anyone expecting a big splash/premier player is going to be disappointed.
I want Simmons...I want Hendrickson...I want Chubb...

"YOU'LL GET NOTHING AND LIKE IT!!!"
Alright, time for me to revise my "preferences":

Hendrickson >>> Hunter >>> Simmons + cheaper edge (such as Phillips or Cam Jordan) >>> Chubb >>>>>>>>> everyone else

I don't know where I would rank "Simmons + nothing else" but it would probably be above everyone else at least.

its not explicitly stated, sure...but if you need something stated explicitly as "we dont think we are superbowl contenders" then no coach will say it.

"I think, at that time, we had a Super Bowl defense that was as good as anyone in the league, and probably had been for like 10 years. And it was pretty obvious"

One reporter referenced the 49ers' 2019 trade for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, a midseason move that helped propel the team to the Super Bowl. Shanahan was asked if this season feels similar in terms of being one piece away from doing something similarly special.

"No, I don't feel at all like that," Shanahan said. "I think, at that time, we had a Super Bowl defense that was as good as anyone in the league, and probably had been for like 10 years. And it was pretty obvious.

"And I thought, at the time, some of the receivers we were dependent on weren't there, and we were playing some young rookies, and we thought we needed to add another guy.

"But yeah, I don't totally see it as the same situation as right now."

So if Kyle thinks we had a SB defense and were one piece away from the SB in 2019...and he doesn't think the same way of the current situation....I mean, put two and two together

You could stretch this to mean "no, it's different, because in 2019 our defense was perfectly fine and our WR corps needed help, but in 2025 our WR corps is perfectly fine and it's our defense that needs help" but I agree that your interpretation is probably closest to correct.

Jordan's dead money hit for NO makes it really hard for them to move him, he's also been one of the worst rated pass rushers in the league this yr.

What do you think about bringing Ebukam back? 49ers lost the best speed-to-power rusher in the game, but can replace him with a very good one. Ebukam had 9.5 sacks in 2023* for the stat nerds. He's at 2 this year. It should be a cheap move. I don't think the 49ers should give away any premium picks, tbh.

I'd be down, but why would the Colts be sellers right now?

Unrealistic guys I'd love that are on s**t teams (that have been brought up in trade talks) Maxx and Hendrickson. Neither guy will be traded here (or at all) imo. Simmons would be with those guys.

Guys I would like because they're young, good and part of the long term plan. Thibo/phillps/McDonald.

cheaper guys who we probably go after are Key and Samson.

older guys that imo kinda stink now and aren't worth trading for are Chubb and Jordan.

Yeah unless Daniel Jones loses a limb in the next two weeks and then Anthony Richardson immediately proceeds to stink up the joint, the Colts are 100% not selling. Otherwise, why not bring back Buckner, am I right?

I don't know. I just saw Colts fans suggesting to trade Ebukam because he's in a contract year in addition to Kwity Paye, and I thought hell yeah I'd take Ebukam.

edit - okay, after doing some research on the Colts forums, it seems that the Colts are interested in acquiring an "elite" edge rusher(ie Trey Hendrickson). If they acquired him, that would seemingly lead to them being open to trading Ebukam, who is in the final year of his deal.

You can go ahead and "put two and two together" all you want. Doesn't mean you're right in Shanahan & Lynch thinking at this very early stage of a long season that this team isn't and/or won't be a SB contender this year. What they don't know is what they don't know yet about this team...about this defense with some of the younger players (who are already making an impact; and, these young guys & the vets have Saleh scheming & coaching them up)...about injuries (who is coming back, who isn't...who is yet to be injured, unfortunately).

It's waaaay to early in the long season to go out on the assumption that your HC & GM are already writing this team off as a team that isn't and won't be a SB contender. Anything can happen between now and Game 17, including injuries to this team and other teams. Look what Lynch said this very morning on KNBR (per Barrows):

Lynch on @KNBRon trading for a defensive lineman: "We'll see. I'm having a lot of conversations, a lot of good and productive ones."

They of course think this team can have a shot this year with it being this early in the season, and with some promising signs already in sitting at 4-1 despite all the key injuries. Does it mean they'll trade for a top DL/DE? No, but it wouldn't surprise me if they traded for some kind of impact guy to provide much needed pass rush help and just overall DL help with all the injuries that have happened.

Adding (getting back) a guy like Ebukam to the DL would be great and probably not too costly. Would really like this - always appreciated his motor and effectiveness. Could plug him right in and could see him making an impact sooner than later.
