GMs don't rip players in public. They often say they like this player or that player to try and build up confidence. That doesn't mean he's not going to try nd improve the O line in the draft.
I would expect him to have enough sense to not make such a ridiculous statement in regards to Brendel it makes him look like an idiot.

We don't know how the question was phrased. Maybe he was asked about center and had to respond.

This is why I think some of you are naive on them drafting an OT in round 1. I don't see it

I don't think we'll do it in the Round 1 unless one of the top OTs fall to us. I think they will draft some in the later rounds though.

"But will we look to add in the draft? Certainly."

Lol, every year we hear this on the WZ.

I would be shocked if we finally draft a OT in round 1. I'm expecting a DL at #11.

Could very well be a WR or DB for all
we know. History says it's a DL selection at #11.

No matter how it was phrased there had to be a better response than that without outright s**tting on Brendel.

Well they've drafted an OT in Round 1 before, so its not shocking if they do again. However I don't want them using #11 on a OL unless thats been the guy they've wanted all along.

I frickin knew it!!! They're gonna stick with Brendel!!! Can someone please convince me that Brendel is the best option the 49ers have!!!

They typically don't throw players under the bus. There were a couple of exceptions I think. Maybe Petis. Maybe Jimmy G but they will draft the center they want and then call it "competition" and the draft guy will win.

John isn't gonna be a dick to Brendel pre-draft and he isn't gonna show his poker hand either.

Chill.
Shannahan starting a rookie at center would be shocking much better odds they go with Brendel over a rookie.
Hennessy will take over by week 6 or so (let's hope). It won't be a rookie or an in season trade. Sucks bc pressure up the middle is killer. Lucky for us, Purdy is among the best at avoiding pressure but damn, it would be nice for him to be able to sit in the pocket without it collapsing due to the 33rd rated C in the NFL.

I don't think this is true, I think they did offer him a contract, but it wasn't as much as the Broncos. They then offered a better contract than the Broncos gave and flew to see him to try persuade him after he verbally committed to the Denver. At the end of the day even John and Kyle in person couldn't bring him back with more money offered, so it seems like Dre wanted a fresh start and to be the #1LB to lead a defense.

He would have stayed if this money was right.

We offered more than the Broncos did before he officially signed. This is more of a wanting to be a lead dog.

Stop with this coping. The 49ers lowballed him on a one year prove it deal thinking nobody was going to give him a multiyear contract that paid him well. The Broncos did and he accepted the offer. Then the 49ers tried to spin the narrative by claiming they outbid the Broncos AFTER he accepted.

Should I start lying to myself like you did in your post?

You spinning it harder than a spinning reel...

It's the same thing that the Giants did with Saquon. They thought go see what your market is and come back crawling when no-one has interest. But it backfired MASSIVELY in NY and it will backfire with Greenlaw when he is leading that D to a top 5 group and we are hoping a rookie can come in and start.

Yet another blunder by this regime in a long list of blunders

Honestly just an upgrade at center makes this OL much much better imo.
