This was my first reaction to him getting released. I also want to know if it was a Post June 1st cut or did they take the full dead cap hit this year as well.

I'd be surprised if it was post June 1.

Post June 1st would help with the cap this year, I think it gives us 8mil in cap space for 2025 and spreads the dead cap hit over 2 years with it being only 2 mil this year if they did Post June 1st. That being said with us already being #1 in dead cap money, they might just say fudge it and take it all this year.

We're doing what we're doing to clear up money in future years. We don't lose any cap this year with Floyd so I don't really see why we would take extra on next year when we don't need to.

At least that's where my thinking is. Can't say I've been right about everything this off season.
Based on lost players so far, according to OTC SF will half 3 4ths and a 5th in comp picks in 2026

Looks like we are trading back in the draft to stockpile more day 2 picks.

Lots of holes to fill, maybe even trade back a couple of times into the 20's for a couple of extra picks.
I'll be surprised if we pick at 11

"Looks like" from where?

We have so many glaring holes right now. Need more picks. If we plugged a few holes in free agency we could be alright but there's too much to fill in one draft

Feels like a smarter move would have been to trade Trent and his huge deal this offseason if we're retooling vs carrying until the end.

What's a team gotta do to get a 3rd?!?!

I think you could make a similar argument for CMC, and it also seems to not make a ton of sense to sign Bosa.

At least with Trent you are protecting someone who is likely to be the team's largest investment.

Disclaimer: I am cap illiterate and only get my info from overthecap and spotrac

Trents dead cap hit is 56 million this year. They have an out after next year (which still requires to eat around 50 mil total in dead cap for 26 and 27)
Also I think Trent would rather retire than go to a new team

Contracts are ranked via a Final Numerical Value based on the sum of points awarded as follows:
  • An inverse ranking of the contract's Average Per Year (APY)
  • One point each for each percentage point of snaps played on offense or defense, with a minimum requirement of 25%. (Kickers and punters earn points based upon statistical performance.)
  • 20 or 5 points based upon being honored by the AP All Pro or PFWA On Field Awards lists.
The round for each contract is assigned on a percentile basis, as follows:
  • 3rd Round: top 5%
  • 4th Round: below top 5% to top 10%
  • 5th Round: below top 10% to top 15%
  • 6th Round: below top 15% to top 25%
  • 7th Round: below top 25% to top 35% (previously 50% in the 2011 CBA)

You can't go into April thinking "11 draft picks are winning us a Super Bowl this year!" You just can't. I can understand "this team isn't good enough and hopefully these 11 draft picks net us some players who can be solid contributors in 2-3 years." But if you're trying to win now, then you don't put all your eggs into the magical mystery box rookie basket that is the draft. But that's what this team is doing. And that's fine. As long as you understand that they're doing it because their mind is set on 2027. Not 2025.

Exactly! I believe we are rebuilding for 25 and 26, and if the drafts go well then we should be serious contenders again for the 2027 season. With our weak schedule this year we still might get a wildcard though, but likely won't go too far. Guess you never know though.
Paying Mason $5.5m this year makes no sense with all our glaring holes. Hopefully he's traded for more picks.
These 2 idiots had the best roster in football for several years and could never win the big game. Botched the salary cap up to high heaven and now have torn it down. What a clown show.

Every team in the NFL does this , philly will do it in a couple years too. We still have a bunch of talent, 11 picks in draft. We will be just fine.
