I respect Lynch for at least making moves and trying to make this team better Baalke never did anything at the start of free agency it's like he waited for all the top expensive players to be gone then went threw what ever was left over and signed them at a cheap price look how well his strategy worked,

I'd say John Elway trained Lynch very well...and we should thank him for that. He knew John could handle the GM position...he's smart, savvy and both his playing history as a FS seeing the entire field in front of him and a fine broadcasting career that allowed him to get to know other GM's, owners and FO people is paying off. He's doing all the things Baalke didn't...adding legitimate talent to firm up the roster and cutting guys who're either overpaid or under-achieving. That's how you build a team...and he's doing it as a rookie GM. Not too shabby John Lynch, not too shabby.

The moves so far make a lot of sense.

Some are not very high on Hoyer. That's OK. He is not great. However, he isn't half bad either. PFF gave him an overall grade of 81, though on 311 snaps. 81 would make him the #15 QB in the league. I'll take that. Also, he is a guy that can run Shanahan's offense from the opening of camp. That is a huge advantage for such a complicated offense. (To his credit, Kelly tried to do the same thing last season with Thad Lewis but he blew out his knee.) If Hoyer winds up the starter and grades in the mid-80s this year the offense will be just fine. For comparison, Prescott graded 84.9 and Cousins 85.9!

Garcon is also an excellent move. He graded 85.8, #8 in the league, right between Jarvis Landry and Doug Baldwin. He is tough guy who likes contact and will punish DBs while blocking. Best of all, he is a very disciplined route runner who will show the kids how to do it. We have not had a WR with his overall skill set in a long time. He fits!

Kyle Juszczyk is only the best FB in the league! He is an important piece in an offense that wants to pound the ball when needed but also catch it for a change-up. Fans are going to love him. Think "pain."

Goodwin is a project but so was Taylor Gabriel. Most of all, he fits the mold that Shanahan wants - a speed guy with quickness. Garcon will mentor him on route running and he may be the biggest surprise of all.

None of these signings are just guys to fill a uniform. They are all here with a purpose which is to turn the offense respectable in two days.

Lynch has done his homework both in research and in creating a culture that guys want to join. It isn't playoff time yet but the days of bags of the head are OVER!

Harumph! (Blazing Saddles reference). I'm all in on this combo. Give them three years and a winning record will be a regular thing around here.

hate the malcom smith signing. mainly because he's a seahawk, but also cuz he's probably no better than Armstrong or Hodges.

I hear ya, but one of my biggest questions with/ about Baalke was if he always had marching orders from Ownership to not spend much if any of that extra Cap space or he was just being tight or did not beleive he needed to spend a lot on very many free agents to field a competitive team....my guess is that TB was gonna always try and make it work his way or bust and we know how that worked out for way to long.....

Smith has 225 tackles, 4 sacks, 9 PD, and 2 int's in the last 2 years.

Although Smith once again led the Raiders in tackles with 103, his play was far too inconsistent to warrant a re-signing. One of the Malcolm's biggest weaknesses is in coverage, which is a major liability. Out of 83 qualifying linebackers, per PFF, Malcolm Smith ranked 77th in 2016.

Along with his inability to cover tight ends, Smith looked flat-footed versus anyone he went up against. He was also unable to shed blocks up front, which was one of many reasons why the Raiders ranked 23rd in run defense last season.

Putting him in the Will in our defense may mitigate that. Usually the SAM is responsible for fighting through the traffic, and also covering tight ends, while the Will is protected.

Better than Bellore or Wilhoite so good enough for now.

That is the idea. Improve what you can when you can. No one has said he will be the reincarnation of PWillis but he will give better depth if nothing else. Any time Bellore or Wilhoite are any more than ST guys you are in trouble.
So technically nothing has officially happened. Thursday is like national signing day, that's when these promises materialize.

So getting a date to the prom is nothing just because the prom hasn't happened yet?
