Honestly I would love if every draft prospect had to produce a podcast before the draft. Best way to evaluate someone is hearing their podcast.
You can easily pick up who's going to be a pain in the ass vs giving you a guy all in for football without stirring crap up.

There is, however, a bright side. It looks like they nailed the 2024 draft. Now, they need to do it again this offseason but in greater quantity. Anyone talking about trading for a Myles Garrett or Max Crosby is being ridiculously naive about the state of the roster. The 49ers need to rack up as many picks as possible, hit on as many picks as possible, and infuse the roster with young, cheap talent.

It's an extremely top heavy roster with players who are at or entering the latter stage of their career with little young starting talent and no depth on both sides of the ball.

I would much rather stay with the picks. Get younger, faster, more healthy, more durable, more years ahead of them. Trading away tons of picks for a 29 year old player who will be 30 soon is just a bad idea. 1 player can get injured, decline, take it easy after a big contract. We got in this mess by trading 3 first rounders for Trey Lance. Time to stop doing that and take a different approach. Build through the draft. They have to stop missing though.

You say this as though Kyle liked drafting a kicker at all. He clearly saw it as a necessary evil when they didn't want to pay Gould a ton to return as a free agent. I highly doubt he wants to do that again. He'll gladly go the cheaper free agent / undrafted rookie route.

Yeah I think and hope they may have found the right formula when it comes to the draft. Definitely some tough lessons learned since 2017 and I do think some of the bigger whiffs they've learned from but the Lance move and fail hit us so hard that it's been tough to rebound from it.
If last year's class is the start of the rebound it's definitely a great way to start and we'll need more of that type of success to stay ahead of the older guys leaving.
I think the formula for them may be
1. Stay away from injury risk, especially early in the draft
2. Proven over projects
3. Avoid tweeners or guys without a clear position early in the draft.
You'll always have misses. As amazing as the Eagles offseason was their biggest FA move was a healthy scratch for the SB. But we have to hit a lot of these picks and may be lucky that the draft strength lines up with our key needs.

The selection felt like they were too cocky in the roster when it happened. The so called "we don't have a lot of needs so we took a guaranteed starter" type of thing.
Tho honestly I felt a little better about the pick after the Pats took Ryland early 4th…I actually hated the Latu pick a lot more.
One thing Kyle and John need to improve on is trying to get a feel for everyone else's board. Too many times we've reached for players that virtually everyone is kind of shocked by going as early as we took them…and I don't recall the last time a player like that actually worked out for us.

* Eagles #2 overall at 90% of 1st and 2nd rounders starting for them. Some stars too.
* 49ers #29 overall at just 43% of 1st and 2nd rounders starting for them. I'm not surprised at all. Call me not shocked. Yikes.
