I think it's time to fire Lynch and see what Adam Peter's can do.
I think Peters needs to be elevated. Lunch can go to a VP role. I like Lynch but the misses on first rounders is bad.
I give Lynch a pass on 2017, Foster was right at 31, a steal, he went complete moron off the field, Saban lied to us, it's like we can't blame Aldon for what he ended up becoming when he would have been the highest paid defender.
2018, ok, McGlinchey looks not so good now, Pettis sucked, but we got Warner, like we did Kittle in 2017, 2 All Pro's
2019 Bosa is a stud, Deebo a stud, Hurd bad pick, Greenlaw a steal, Mitch good, even for a 4th rd pick
2020 Aiyuk looks like he could be a star, jury is out on Kinlaw, he could come back stronger than ever, you never know
2021, too early to say, you can't call any of the 8 picks bad, no matter if they're playing or not, Kyle likes to go with the hot hand at RB, Mitchell is that guy right now, remember previous years, he'd go with Coleman, then Breida, then Wilson, then Mostert, etc.... I do with Ambry & Lenoir would be active over Kirkpatrick & Johnson, and now Banks should be active each week.
Solomon Thomas?
I mean, ST didn't turn out well. But he was a top 5 - 10 ranked player on almost every draft expert board I saw. It unfortunately happens.
So you think it's okay for these guys to draft based on rankings by the "draft experts"? The draft experts rankings are for us not NFL GM's. Drafting Solomon Thomas is something that I would do and that's why I'm not a NFL GM. We needed a QB (Brian Hoyer) and left two pretty good ones on the board. If we would have pulled the trigger on one of those guys like we did for Lance this year, we would actually be ahead of the 8 ball. We could have traded up for Lamar Jackson for less than it cost to trade up for Lance.
It's the GM's job to know, not guess!
First, this is a healthy conversation given where things are at. We have a lot of interesting pieces.
As to our point on ST - No, I'm saying the player was universally graded high by experts. This is complete Monday Morning QBing as to ST as a prospect is all.
Your comment about need is very on-point for that draft. The question is was a QB a higher priority for us... as at the time we had two high quality DTs on the roster, and we needed pure DEs if they were available.
Someone earlier made a comment about moneyball moves. I think ST was drafted, knowing that we had both DB and AA and would not be able to pay both. We, of course, tried again with Kinlaw after the trade.
My real point, I see the logic in what they've done. We clearly have some significant question marks on the roster. Where we're at, we just made a big bet on Lance. After '22, if things aren't on the upswing with some experience and another offseason, all the questions everyone is making about Lynch, Shanahan, etc are going to be a real topic for the niners. But that would be the '22 - '23 offseason >> '23 season. My two cents.
I see no logic in being in salary cap hell, with an inability to beat Colt McCoy and a lack of planning for the draft.
