Listening to 49ers live... apparently they asked John Lynch about the DC vacancy? Did he say anything noteworthy? Could have heard incorrectly.

Missed that part, but I did catch him saying he didn't want to be a read and react defense. He wants to be an attacking style defense. To me, this means the d-line will do less 2-gapping and more 1-gapping. I wouldn't be surprised if we moved to a base 4-3 defense.

Yup, just based on Lynch's comments and the d-coordinator candidates they've reached out too, I'm thinking they want to run a 4-3 under style defense like Seattle, Atlanta, Jacksonville.

Pete Carroll was heavily influenced by George Siefert and how he used the elephant to be a key matchup piece. Carroll has done the same with the LEO position using Cliff Avril, Bruce Irvin, Chris Clemons over the years.. Atlanta spent a high draft choice on Vic Beasley. Jacksonville picked Dante Fowler Jr.......I suspect the 49ers will be aggressive in finding this type of smaller, explosive edge rusher.

Not really. Just said they want to be aggressive not a read and react D.

I love the staff we have assembled in the Front Office. For John Lynch to be able to pick the minds of Peters, Gamble and Mayhew, that will be huge in his development and of course the success of our team. Stoked!

John Lynch wasn't kidding when he said he would assemble a strong experienced staff around him.

Blair might benefit from this change. I would still like to see them pick up a true NT who can hold the middle against the run, and possibly get some pressure on passing downs. Both Buckner and Armstead need to keep working on staying low so they aren't washed out but they can play in any front. I'd like to see a four man line with Blair moving around presenting more a three man set with a rover. Perhaps similar to the elephant position played by Haley. That would require picking up at least one really top LB who is versatile enough to play inside or outside depending on what Blair is doing. This is why I find Foster intriguing.

I really like the potential of Ronald Blair. Give him a year or two and he will make a name for himself.

Really hope they go the Nolan route where there is not enough leadership on the team. First thing Nolan did was acquire quality football players who believed in the team. Jonas Jennings may have not been the best but he was all about the team. Same with almost every player Nolan acquired early on.

Once the team personality and identity is set, then go after some major talent that helps fill in the holes.
So refreshing to hear John & Kyle's interviews. They speak very clearly and honestly. Having gone through Harbuagh, Tomsula and Baalke was a nightmare. Chip was good though.
