Mayhew might be more a structural help than talent evaluator. If so...great!

They didn't need a WR since they had Tate and Megatron, DT wasn't a need with Suh and Fairley so no need for Donald, but I guess Lewan would have made sense.

He just said that he talked to John McVay yesterday and said he will be stopping in.

He's 86... is he just talking to him for advice?

Given Suh's and Fairley's contract situation, respectively, Donald would have made some sense as well. However, I don't hate GMs for picking mediocre guys in top10 (or whatever it was). Still possible that he learned from this lesson (and from many more).
He will certainly help us somehow due to experience with rebuilding he gained in Detroit.

Most likely.

This, Adam Peters will probably have the most input on draft selections, if not final say. All talent evaluators miss. The more you have evaluating the better chance you have in getting it right.

Something more positive:

Listening to 49ers live... apparently they asked John Lynch about the DC vacancy? Did he say anything noteworthy? Could have heard incorrectly.
