Looks like if we have an Achilles heel, it'll remain pass protection and coverage in the back end.

no s**t! Killing me

Can't fix everything in 1 offseason, we fixed the pass rush, and WR corps, always next offseason.

So far I'm tracking 3 drafts and two offseason's so far. And a lot of holes. I'm done with the next offseason's
There's some nice OG's here coming up. Some DB's still there that could help.

Yes, he likely would have been there in rd 4, but Shanahan falls in love with guys and can't wait for them to get into their value range, he must have them now
eg. Joe Williams, Pettis, Deebo, Hurd = all were over-drafted and not very good value

Agreed. I think the Jason Verrett addition may prove to be More impactful than a lot of people are expecting as well... fingers crossed anyway.

A big fingers crossed too!! I hope he can stay on the field

It's been THREE off seasons ... no more excuses

I hear you but you have to reset your emotions and brain every year. I'm not saying that's an excuse, but the reality is Kyle is still the coach and John the GM. This roster was the worst in the nfl when they took over and they had a seriously rough first year at it themselves lol

Now to the present We knew they needed to address pass rush/defense and they have certainly addressed the pass rush. I felt this draft would be defensive heavy, but the two WR selections say otherwise.

We really need better safety play and interior o-line play/depth. No way that can be fixed this offseason all at once.

I feel like they are a year behind because the 17 draft is suspect aside Kittle and all the injuries last year.

We really need a healthy season too. The injuries were insane last year.

Not correct. Shanahan fell in love with Deebo and Hurd, he had to have them and over-drafted them a little high
Shanahan thirsts for a great offense, and these WR's were both hand picked by Shanahan

lol, you know their board?!

What makes you or gives you the right to say Pettis, or Deebo/Hurd were over-drafted? No one knows that for sure. No one knows where or who wanted them, I trust Shanahan and Lynch over some webzoners opinions. You guys act like you know more than the team does. If you did, then why aren't you employed by an NFL team?
Man..if you told me we could have a chance at Butler in the 4th I'd never believe it

CGJ is the dude I want to start tomorrow but have a bad feeling Arizona takes him or we pass on him. Wonder why he's falling so much.

There is no such thing as overdrafted or underdrafted..... drafted is drafted. McGlinchey was considered overdrafted... and Darius Leanard of the colts was hated by their local writers and fans thinking he was overdrafted and not necessary. (https://coltswire.usatoday.com/2018/04/30/indianapolis-colts-darius-leonard-2018-nfl-draft-worst-picks-bleacher-report/)

Scouts arent divulging their player rankings to talking heads and those talking heads arent watching every play of every game for every prospect. The guys on TV and that write articles... if they are even top tier, get their information from talking to GM's who use them to relay messages to other GMs. But its all a chess game and misdirection.

They actually probably could have...if they traded back their 36th, still gotten Risner, Deebo with the next pick as all the receivers fell big time, added Adderly, etc. Hurd tomorrow, etc.

They do overdraft because Kyle and Lynch get too attached to certain players and too fixated on scheme-fit.

It shouldn't take 4 years to fix your OL when you have a FQB esp. one coming off an ACL. Same for pass defense in a passing league.

No Guarantee Deebo would have fell NC, he was one of the top 5 WRs in the draft, he wouldn't have been there at 67 IMO. I agree with above posters there is no overdrafted or underdrafted, just drafted. McGlinchey was considered over drafted, but OAK wanted him at 10, even Pettis was a guy i think GB wanted(could be wrong on team), and we traded up because someone was gonna take him.
trade some of the dead weight away
SI Draft Grades thus far:

2. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: DE NICK BOSAThe Niners forced seven turnovers in 2018, four fewer than the league's previous all-time low. That's staggering, given that they primarily run a traditional Seahawks-style zone scheme, where players keep the action in front of them and rally to the ball. With this approach, a lack of turnovers stems especially from your pass rush failing to disrupt the quarterback. The Niners, who rely on a four-man rush and generated no pressure off the edges last year, took a huge step earlier this offseason by trading for Kansas City's Dee Ford. Adding Bosa could make them the NFL's fastest-rising defense in 2019. He'll likely align outside, opposite Ford and with underrated long-armed monster DeForest Buckner between them. But like his brother Joey, Nick Bosa can also rush from inside in obvious passing situations. The Niners now have a lot of weapons and options up front.
GRADE: A

36. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: WR DEEBO SAMUEL
Some believe that Samuel will need the aid of schemed tactics like bunch alignments and pre-snap motion to help beat press coverage. Fortunately, Kyle Shanahan's detailed, pass-friendly system is ripe with those. After drafting Dante Pettis last year, the Niners now have two young receivers to move around the formation, along with star tight end George Kittle and stud receiving backs Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon.
GRADE: A

67. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: WR JALEN HURDAs we covered in the Deebo Samuel write-up, San Francisco's scheme is receiver-friendly, assuming that receiver has respectable fundamentals. With Hurd, that may take time, as his experience is predominantly at running back. Hurd appears to simply give the Niners depth and options, but given that this team had other needs (namely defensive back), we can assume he wouldn't be here unless Kyle Shanahan had a specific plan for him.
GRADE: B

We shall see what reports come out. But I don't think it s a stretch to say they could've come away with Risner, Samuel, and possibly even Adderley, and still be in position to pick up Hurd in the 4th tomorrow. With that said, I don't think they have bad players. I think we have two starters and a weapon. We'll see how OL in particular holds up next season given we likely aren't adding anyone major in the draft.
