A great risk would be drafting Mahomes when the team still needed a QB. But we drafted our 3rd straight DL.
and people say..... no one knew mahomes would be great!! b******t. He was taken 10th and did great. What else you need?
If it was that obvious...why didn't the Browns take him? Or, the Bears after they moved up from 3 to 2? Or, any team between 1 and 9?
I also don't remember an avalanche of criticism at the time that the 49ers should have taken Mahomes at #2 (or #3 after the trade).
Your better argument is that the 49ers should have selected Latimore or Hooker given the troubles they have had in the secondary.
Ironically, you state that Lynch makes "dumb risky moves". At the time, Thomas was considered a "safe" move. Hooker and Latimore were considered riskier because of their injury histories. Mahomes was riskier because he was seen as being very raw.
And, if you're going to stick with the "49ers should have taken Mahomes" stance...the blame falls more at Kyle's feet than Lynch's. Kyle was going to get to pick his QB. He preferred to wait through the first year after studying the QBs. If Kyle had wanted Mahomes, he would have been the pick.
