Darren Rovell @darrenrovell
The 49ers say Aldon Smith OWES them $341,630.18 in signing bonus money and have sued him to recover it (H/T @eriqgardner)

I am guessing Lynch has nothing to do with this.

I am telling you, John Lynch ain't playing, man. Just you watch, he has all the resources he needs from Jed to make things happen. He is going to keep making calls to the guys he wants and go hey bro come to the 9ers, how much do you want? OK, no prob. Plus, aside from money, people actually want to work for him, that is a deadly combination when you are trying to put together a good crew!!

This off-season has been A+ so far. Get us a franchise QB and it's A++.

I think that we need to settle for what we can salvage somewhere for QB... This year. But I believe the rest of the moves set us up to find one next year. Especially if we don't blow next year's draft picks on a QB this year that we are just settling for. It will take a full year at least to install the WCO and this draft and next to get the rest of the team in place. There may finally be light at the end of the tunnel. And I don't think this time it is just a headlight coming our way.

Good post mojave!

Agree completely, IMO - there isn't a Franchise QB in this draft and we would be settling if taken at #2.

There is, again mu y opinion, 2-4 guys who are FP.

Garret and Allen and WR Williams.

If we ain't taking a QB at 2, then we have no business in the draft in trying to find a legit QB for real.

It is absolutely imperative we to take a QB at 2!! That is my opinion and has always been my opinion. If we take anyone probably other than Trubisky, we are just essentially buying a lottery ticket and that is no QB plan. We need to take a swing like a man!!

Don't ever fall for the dumb saying, oh hey this year's QB class is really thin let's wait till next year. Why? Because every year they same the same sh*t! Plus, in all likelihood, we won't be drafting at No.2 overall again come same time next year which means by then it will cost us the entire farm to trade up to get a top QB.

No, not the decision to file. This is a long standing issue. But it will be on his plate as a GM. That's why they call it a *General* Manager. He has say into everything. We only talk about the player personnel related aspect of the job.

I doubt he will have anything to do with this. This has nothing to do with this job. This is about the team collecting money on a player no longer on the team.

He makes it sound like some sort of dastardly conspiracy.

He started off with the fallacy that there's some hierarchy you must stick with when hiring FO.

This Peters guy hasn't done much from what I'm reading. 2016 was his first season as Director of college scouting and we have not seen the results of his work since it's this upcoming 2017 draft where the results will be seen. Before that he was an area scout. Which area?

I didn't know the GM of an NFL team picks the food in the cafeteria and deals with collections. Figured he'd be busy scouting all the time.

"Hold up a second Jerry.....Hey earl order some more tater tots.....Ok Jerry, now about that deal for Romo."

LMFAO! First day on the job...

"Alright...give me the Aldon file people. Ahhh, yes, right here...ladies and gentleman, we're about to sue the s**t out of Aldon. BamBam is next!"

I liked when Lynch said he wants players that love to play football and if they don't then he'll get people that do. A focus on the commitment to the game at a high level seems to have been missing the past few seasons after all those vets left (Willis, Justin, Gore). This is a young roster and a relaxed attitude is poison to their development. Time to get guys that eat/sleep football. Questioning talent is fine. Questioning heart is a big problem that can become part of the a team's fabric.

I want leaders!

So that means half assers like AA and Aaron Lynch are out.

Reid for sure is gone. As soon as Lynch starts watching tape of him half-jogging along; Bethea as well...they'll be gone. I'd be very surprised to see either back.

I don't know... Maybe they played like that because that was the whole organizations culture(half-jogging) at the time. Maybe they just need someone to light a fire under their ass.

Did Trotter even think before asking the last question? Not every guy who knows what the job requires or how to do it will perform that job the best. Anyone who has ever worked before could tell you that.

Absolutely. I've seen time and time again, talented people who are great leaders and communicators overcome lack of experience. These guys "get it", experience on the job is just a formality to what is already a sound vision and way to do things.

Good post man. I've been in management for awhile now and early in the process a wise man once told me "it's not what you know, but who you know." I didn't start becoming successful until I truly understood what that meant. When you lack the know how of how to do a specific trait of the job but you network yourself to a pipeline of other people that are sound and said in their knowledge of that said trait than your always going to be able to get s**t done, as long as you can do one thing...Manage personalities and egos.

Exactly. I think Lynch knows exactly what needs to be done and how to do it. Now its about delegating responsibilities to the right people to help him get there. He also strikes me as a guy who can manage personalities and keep everyone on the same page.

As a General Manager he will absolutely be informed on how it transpires. Also, it's an in-house lesson on how contracts/players can go bad.
