He is going to keep making calls to the guys he wants and go hey bro come to the 9ers, how much do you want? OK, no prob. Plus, aside from money, people actually want to work for him, that is a deadly combination when you are trying to put together a good crew!!

This off-season has been A+ so far. Get us a franchise QB and it's A++.

I think that we need to settle for what we can salvage somewhere for QB... This year. But I believe the rest of the moves set us up to find one next year. Especially if we don't blow next year's draft picks on a QB this year that we are just settling for. It will take a full year at least to install the WCO and this draft and next to get the rest of the team in place. There may finally be light at the end of the tunnel. And I don't think this time it is just a headlight coming our way.

Get a star receiver too and it'll be A+++.

Add a pass rusher and it'll be

He makes it sound like some sort of dastardly conspiracy.

Yeah, I don't get it. Not the first time a darkhorse candidate emerged to get a job. People don't have a problem with the hire, but a problem with the "process"....I really don't know what they are talking about.

Did Trotter even think before asking the last question? Not every guy who knows what the job requires or how to do it will perform that job the best. Anyone who has ever worked before could tell you that.

Let's just call John Lynch what he really is here...President of Football Operations.

That's his role...he'll hire several specialist staff (pro+player personnel) to manage coaching, scouting, the draft and free agency and everyone will report up to him. And he'll have a dotted line relationship with Paraag for contracts and the large analytics department he runs (that could get interesting BTW) and both will report up to Jed.

He'll be the trigger man on draft day, control the 90 and work with Kyle on the 53 (of which, Kyle will be the trigger man).

he'll be tasked for managing all the staff, personalities, connections within the NFL and reshaping our image and building back a Championship culture.

Do you think he is Paraag's boss in Football Ops?

Good post NC. Similar to Elway in Denver. President of Football Ops + GM title. I like the structure so far.

I also like that Kyle will have final say on the 53. Of course they'll work together on figuring out the 53, but the HC having final authority makes sense to me. He's the one down on the field coaching these guys up and conducting the meetings with them. He has more intimate knowledge of the players capabilities once they are in the building and practicing.

All of this. And I'm getting more and more comfortable with the idea. It was a shock and an eye roll initially, but it's looking better all the time.

Woo, absolutely that title should be removed from Paraag (as of last year, really, with that realignment per Jed York) and given to John as that is what he REALLY is (and certainly not what Paraag is). With this role, I have absolutely no issues with it as long as he continues to do the aforementioned (building up a specialized staff, connections, managing all, reshaping the image, etc.). In fact, that's what we ALL wanted initially. I'm perfectly fine with this model.

Now, will Jed reshape titles and help define clear roles and responsibilities?

Yup, realistically we won't be able to fulfill every need in one off-season. This is a long-term rebuild. Ideally we can find our QB to build around in this draft.

I liked when Lynch said he wants players that love to play football and if they don't then he'll get people that do. A focus on the commitment to the game at a high level seems to have been missing the past few seasons after all those vets left (Willis, Justin, Gore). This is a young roster and a relaxed attitude is poison to their development. Time to get guys that eat/sleep football. Questioning talent is fine. Questioning heart is a big problem that can become part of the a team's fabric.

That $80 mil of cap space? You can bet your as* he is going to spend a good chunk of it in signing legit FA impact players. As for his QB plan, I reckon he is going to get it covered from all angles. He will probably sign a legit vet to tie us over at least for next season as well as taking a top QB in the draft.

I trust this dude, he is not going to just sit there and do nothing like fxxking Baalke. Lynch might be a nice guy, but he is a very competitive dude plus he has no ego to get in his way. Once he starts acquiring FAs, we will have a better idea on his evaluation and taste on players. I can't wait!!

Absolutely. I've seen time and time again, talented people who are great leaders and communicators overcome lack of experience. These guys "get it", experience on the job is just a formality to what is already a sound vision and way to do things.

Good post mojave!

Agree completely, IMO - there isn't a Franchise QB in this draft and we would be settling if taken at #2.

There is, again mu y opinion, 2-4 guys who are FP.

Garret and Allen and WR Williams.

I am pretty confident that all of the above will happen!!

I'm also expecting us to be active in FA. Not reckless, but we will add a couple impact players. I'm sure we'll explore all QB options. Bridge QB in FA, future starter in the draft is always a good idea. I trust they'll find the right guys.

The Peters hire is just one thing but it does suggest that Lynch has great respect and credibility around the league. Elway didn't have to let Peters go, and probably would not have if he didn't feel it was something good for Peters. It isn't just that it fills a role that is important but it sends a message to others who might be interested that the "culture" is changing.

If this carries through, it will make the signing of FAs a bit less problematic. Where last off-season most FAs had never heard of Trent Baalke, now most every FA will know Lynch and what he brings to the table.

Impressive first two days on the job.
