Many of you will be eating crow. John will take us back to our winning ways. Can't wait!
"I think when everything's wrapped up we can confirm things. But what I can tell you is the commitment that Jed and the 49er organization have shown to me to make this come to fruition has been incredible.
"I'm also incredibly fortunate in this world that things stayed quiet. … That let me ask the tough questions to just kind of get with people that I'm going to work with– any elephant in the room, just get rid of it.

"I didn't need the job, which gave me a great position just to be very forward. I asked those questions and I'm proud of the way that that happened; I'm proud of the way they responded.
"Why was it so important to be secretive? I've had people ask me that. i wanted to evaluate this situation as it developed. I thought it'd be much easier if I didn't have the world breathing down my throat…"

"I can tell you one thing from being a broadcaster, you get invited into people's buildings. And like I said, this wasn't like I'm sitting in there taking notes, stealing institutional knowledge. "But you sit down with head coaches (and others)… the one common denominator that I've seen, in places where they have successful cultures and results, everyone's working in the same direction. i

"In places that are inconsistent or consistently poor franchises you can see it, you can feel it. People from one side are coming up, hey if I had any players we can get this thing going… or management is saying hey if we could coach these guys…

"Everybody has to be working together.. I've had an ability to bring people together. I've been out front… I think that's a strength of mine. Whoever this head coach is going to be, that will be something that we all understand."

"I thin the best case is John Elway. We're friendly, we both went to Stanford, there's a lot of parallels. When I came to Denver he looked out for me. He's one of my closest friends. I got to see a snapshot of what the role was like…

"I'm not into making comparisons but I can tell you I strive to attack this job in the way that he has. He's excellent at it. He's given me the confidence in many ways that although we haven't done it… one thing I told Jed over and over, I know what I don't know.

"I can't profess that I've had 20 years in front offices… but I'll put my football acumen up with most in this league. I know people and I know how to lead. As I've watched John, those are things I think he's done extremely well and what I strive to do in this role."

Here a story that you guys may find interesting. What is says or doesn't say about his upbringing is up to you. John has a younger brother Ryan. Around '92 Ryan was in high school here in San Diego. during a football game he kicked an opposing teams player in the stomach and was tossed from the game. Playoffs were starting the following week and by rule he was to be suspended for the game. John Lynch Sr their father, Is a very wealthy man. own a bunch of radio stations and other media outlets. He decides, instead of his son serving his suspension, to get his lawyers involved and get an injunction on the suspension knowing that by the time it was adjudicated playoffs would be over. Which is exactly what happened. This allowed the brother Ryan to play the next weeks game which they eventually lost.

Lol I'm sorry what does this have to do with anything regarding John lynch

That kicking someone in the stomach still leads to losing in the playoffs or something.

That money buys influence in this world?

I'm sure there are all sorts of messages from that little anecdote.

Fascinating.

http://www.49erswebzone.com/news/103125-jay-glazer-49ers-hiring-john-lynch/

Covers so much.

  • 49er brought him in as a consultant and he was brutally honest with them and their drama
  • Consultant became a hire
  • Understands limitations
  • Carries credibility around the league
  • THEY had to convince HIM of the job

Oh snap...John spent the night at Jed's. No drama, huh, Glazer? Paraag will NOT be happy about this!

Paraag was there, too.

All I got out of that was a good business decision.
This isn't just a rebuild. It's a kindergarten class too. The most experienced person is Tom Gamble. I hope it works out.

This, I feel good about him and Kyle together. I believe he will surround himself with quality advisors to fill the knowledge gap and will do a great job. Some of the other GM canidates we had on our list, were around for years of average to bad drafts for other teams, can't wait to see Lynch swing for the fences and get some quality players in here.
Man I am STOKED for John Lynch! He's gonna prove all the doubters wrong.
