As critical as I've been of this organization and as surprised as I was, I'm actually pretty excited about Lynch.
There are so many things required of the General Manager and everyone seems to focus on the only area he lacks: scouting. Anyone that wants to point at his lack of scouting "experience" as a predictor of him failing as a GM should take a hard look at GM's around the NFL and how many terrible picks/drafts are made over the years from rock star GM's. The difference between the best and the worst GMs in the NFL is minuscule to the point I truly believe most hardcore draft fans could build a roster via draft and free agency as well as most GM's.
Look at the most reputable scouting teams like Green Bay, Seattle, New England, etc. and look over all their picks and show me what remarkable talent they've found out of nowhere in recent years that was above and beyond what any hardcore draft fan could've done if they picked the best player on their board at each spot. At the end of the day it's a crapshoot. Trent Baalke was the quintessential scouts scout and his talent evaluation set this organization back years. Lynch is atleast as qualified for talent eval as the hardcore draft fans/media members.
Atleast with Lynch you are guaranteed to get a guy that can lead, work well with others, has a a commanding presence, is genuinely charismatic, has an immense knowledge of the game from both a player and observers perspective, and is extremely well-connected and respected by coaches and players. Trent Baalke failed at all of those AND talent evaluation under his GM role.
Lynch will not only bring the above but will also be more willing to draft players that fit the coaches system and take input from grinding scouts as he's smart enough to know what he doesn't know and humble enough to work with those within the organization which was another utter failure of Baalke. He will also be able to recruit some top up and coming scouts who realize they will have far more draft authority under Lynch than they would under a "Scout" GM.
In reality Baalke got us in this mess and Lynch possesses in spades everything that Baalke was devoid of: charimsa, leadership, and ability to work in a team structure.
