Teams just dont trade #1 or #2 picks for 30 year old cornerbacks. A good comparision is Aqib Talib who was First Team All Pro in 2016 and selected to 5 straight Pro Bowls between 2013 and 2017. He was 32 years old and the Rams got him for a 5th rd pick. A FIFTH! Thats the best Denver could get.

Even Marcus Peters, 25 years old and also First Team All Pro, was traded for less than a 1st rd pick. This despite the fact that he had multiple years left on his rookie contract.

I think people are delusional if they think Sherman could get the Niners a first or 2nd rd pick.
Get rid of Sherman so we can find the next Witherspoon?

This hire never made any sense at all. He was never a scout, a player personnel director, never a GM before. What business does he have evaluating and picking players? He was a disaster on Solomon Thomas the #3 overall pick. To make it worse we passed on Mahomes. We have not added any pass rush in free agency although we had the chance to do it. He misses on some very early picks and gets busts. I'm very concerned about him as GM. He was inexperienced for this job.

He was a player and a broadcaster. But he had no business being a GM. The ownership made a terrible pick here IMO. He makes even less sense to me than Kyle Shannahan at head coach. I think you could actually make an argument for KS. But I don't see how you can for John Lynch. He doesn't belong in this position and the results show. We should hire a competent GM with experience and a proven track record. You know somebody that is actually qualified for the job and belongs in the job.

yet he's almost completely fixed the O-Line, despite your belief in him. His lack of experience isn't a huge deal when he surrounds himself with guys like Peters and Mayhew.

Mcglinchey looks like a nice pick so far and I think he will work out. He looks real good up to this point. But one guy doesn't fix our O Line. The Center we got in FA helps too. Our O Line has improved. We have other areas where we have failed like edge pass rusher and QB who is made of glass and we passed on Mahomes and have no backup. We are probably headed for 1 - 15. So I don't think you can claim this is a very good overall roster.

It's not a very good roster. A complete roster overhaul isn't fast. Most people in the NFL would disagree with you that CJ is not backup worthy.

CJ actually impresses me in very short time frames. He is just highly inconsistent, has some accuracy issues and has a bad overall roster he is dealing with. So it's not enough of a roster for most backups at least to come in and win.

If to you he's "highly inconsistent" yet putting up similar numbers to Jimmy G, then I don't know what to tell you man. Enjoy the weather in San Diego.

His TD/INT ratio is 11/13, Jimmy's TD/INT ratio is 12/8 with the 49ers. That is a huge difference.

agreed that is a big difference. But that's only one stat, that's my point.

I obviously value Jimmy G as a starter and CJ as a backup at the end of the day.

And calling for Kap is irrational desperation. He would do well in the right scheme. Just not this one.
I was very impressed with Kaepernick in his final season and the seasons that preceded the last one with Chip Kelly he was injured Gabbert started at beginning of the season until Kap was ready to take over 16 tds vs 4 ints with worst receiving core in the NFL is very impressive.Im not saying Kaepernick is the GOAT thats Joe Montana but is he better than CJ beathard absolutely.Kaepernick had a bad game vs bears in the snow but lets talk about the game he won in fox boro vs tom brady in similar conditions or playoff game vs packers. Anyone who cant see CJ beathard stinks and Kap is obvious upgrade is delusional. Football is football no matter what the scheme either u can play or u cant Kap can play CJ cant.

this should be merged with the thread that talks about the greater frustration with the niners

I stopped reading right there. You didn't watch a single game. How could ANYONE be impressed with a sub 50% completion rate and a QB rating just as poor in the second half of EVERY damn game he played in during his last year. How could ANYONE be impressed with Kap playing well enough to win in the 1st half and then watch him s**t the bed completely in the 2nd half, week after week after week?

Since you didn't watch and base your posts on stats alone, please go compare 1st half to 2nd half stats on this impressive season you post about.

Had it never been known we were talking to the Raiders regarding Mack, Lynch would get hated for not even trying.

Because it is known, Lynch gets hate for not doing more or making it happen.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I know, I just personally don't want to hear about what they are/are not doing. When the JG deal happened it was a pleasant surprise, because it came out of left field. When I hear things about multiple conversations, it just sets up for disappointment when they don't pan out.

you either win or you lose. there are no moral victories. i go by what people do and not what they say. that saying was invented for people like lynch but it makes his base happy

Actually you can tie too. So you either win, or you lose, or you tie. But always, you cannot try - because there is no try.

I hear you and I too prefer the left field "wtf just happened " surprise deals.
