Running Back Duo - Kyle Shanahan Offense

Our draft is so screwed....we have an OL, we have a RB, we have...unhhh, not much else. Oops...RB? We got a great one, except for one thing. He gets injured early and often. So maybe a FB would help take some of the punishment out of going thru the hole. Not all, but some. Nah, still probably get injured some...So we look down and there around #6, ,maybe 5 is Fournette. That would work, except he isn't the 2nd best player in the draft. There are so many good things about this draft, but it seems to just not quite line up for us. I don't see how to trade back for Fournette or rather have someone trade up. Garrett, same thing but different problem(Cleve picks first).

What we need is a helluva good FA and follow that up with a couple teams that go ape doo doo over Trubisky and suddenly a bidding war erupts. Right now that seems like the scenario i like best unless Cleve does a "cleve" and takes Watson. Now that would be something. #2, tho is definitely a last minute decision by someone that just has to draft trubisk.

I honestly hope we get Joe Mixon. He is literally a spitting image of Tevin Coleman. He can run catch has great measurable s with size and speed. I'm disappointed he is going to the combine but I'm sure he will have a great pro day. Teams are eye balling him hard. The off field issues of course suck but he's been pretty good for the most part other than that video. I'm crossing my fingers that we draft him.

This is why Hyde will have an awesome year. Every running back in Kyle's first year has improved.

Williams has speed, which he displayed on a long, outside run to the left during Wednesday's practice. A lot of analysts wonder if Williams will overtake Carlos Hyde at tailback. In the spring, at least, it seemed as if undrafted Matt Breida (see below) had more highlights than Williams.

Until you get hit by a linebacker and a 300 pound Defensive end, speed means nothing.

Come back to me when they are hittin each other and if this kid is for real; he will be takin his licks and getting up with a smile and giving the next play a cloud of dust.

I don't know much about Matt Breida, but the more I do read about him, and watch some of his highlights, I'm marking him as a good possibility to make the 53. He get's knocked for not catching passes, but he's a option RB from Georgia Southern and he has to *catch* those option tosses that are tossed to him and I think that skill set will translate to him catching balls from the RB position in the WCO. He has good speed and acceleration and I can see him on a draw play and basically getting good yardage with his speed on those kinds of plays. I just don't think he'll be breaking tackles like Carlos Hyde if they featured him (for example) as a first or second down RB who is expected to get 3+ yards per carry.

Matt Breida may yet end up as our 3rd string QB running the option just to change it up a bit.

"Really, I played in similar offense in New England and then in Houston, each year something new evolves so to play with Kyle back in Cleveland and now with our system here, sure the core routes, formations, protections, those are still in tact. I think the key to this offense is the Tight End rather than the running back. The Classic WCO always had a great TE (great in the sense that he roamed the territory in between the LB's and D Line) and really created defensive headaches for the opposing defense. OW Juice (I think is going to have a big year) Again, our Wide Outs aren't all pro material so it will put a premium on play action passes to get our receivers open, and I think the Tight End with his dual role as blocker in the run game and receiver in the passing game will be the key difference on 3rd downs. Tough to key on a TE when you can't tell if he's going to block because it's a run or because he's faking a block and going out for a pass. If the defense starts to devote resources to stop the TE, then that's where the RB's come into play as alternate TE's so to speak to keep the drive going.

Yup. Garcon,Kerley,Backs and TEs all are chainlinked and feed off of each other to make the damn thang go.

Well 6 months later, it didn't exactly turn out that way, but we did have someone who had to have Trubisky at #2....CHI...who was anxious to leave a 3rd and 4th rd pick and swap #2 for #3 with us.

At the time of writing the above i hadn't seen anywhere near the tape on Solomon that I ended up seeing. By time to pick we were on the clock , I was afraid Solomon was gone( and then later we find out Shalyn would ahve taken Reuben at #3.) But the football gods interceded and CHI takes Trubs...We get Solomon anyway and our new GM looks to be on a roll.

Time passes, kyle nor John can find us a dance partner, as the kid who was kicked out of the combine slides further and further . 2nd rd is coming up where he will be a steal. Finally #31, we get an offer and jump on it, sending back one of the two pick we fleeced from CHI.

Bingo, we get Reuben. Now we have the best DL in the draft PLUS the best LB in the draft, and rd 1 isn't over yet. The worrisome part to me was just before the CHI pick i was sure it was Solly. I was sure of it. And then they take Trubs. Jeez! Great result, but it could have gone sideways. Solly could be wearing a CHI uniform right now. We came that close. So now with the 2nd day of camp in the bag, Solly is signed ...and it's a good time to say a word of thanks and be happy with our acquisition. But it didn't have to be this way and darn near wasn't. We have been brutally unlucky as well as bad with drafts in recent times , but for now, things are changing. The signing of the one most important guy on our team is done. Fine start for 2017 season. We could have traded for Fournette but he wasn't near the value of a #3 pick in the draft. Solomon was either #1 or #2. So look for Solomon to be one of our team leaders sometime soon....and coming to a stadium near you.
