It doesn't do a lot of good to have a downfield WR if your QB's can't get him the ball...I'm a lot more anxious to see what Smelter can do than hang on to TS. If you have WR's who can catch the ball and get YAC, if your TE's can actually hang onto the ball, then a speedy downfield WR makes a lot more sense. But, that's not the case, so if the Eagles or some other team wants to cough up a high draft pick, why not make that move...or for another player who fits what Kelly wants to do. Let's face it, folks, this season's basically a wash...Kelly doesn't have a QB he can count on to run his offense at a high level, he has a raggedy WR corps, TE's who suck, and a very thin RB corps. Whether it's Baalke or another GM, you can bet Coach will have a definite say on whatever skill players are drafted or signed in FA. He should...he knows the kind of players he needs, and he clearly doesn't have them now. Much as I hate the thought of Staley possibly leaving, it may be necessary, again to get a high draft pick or a player who can contribute right away at another position.

Why didn't we go complete rebuild prior to 2015 or 2016?
Smelter, Burbidge whatever other trash WR's we kept instead of keeping some of the defensive "talent" that got cut this off-season.
I agree, I'm not sure why they didn't complete rebuild this past offseason. We had a lot of picks, maybe Baalke thought the roster was better than it was.
A complete rebuild was the obvious direction to go in for the past two offseasons, I think if they haven't committed to a rebuild by now they will never commit to a rebuild.
Two consecutive 1st round d-line tackles (AA picked #17 in 2015 and DFro picked #4 in 2016) and the f**king d-line getting pushed around like high school players. Can't draft, can't coach, and now you're trading away only proven players you have. What sense does this make?
He has zero creativity. Redrafting positions over and over again and then using the tired BPA excuse.
BPA is an easy excuse to not have to target guys for specific positions and be wrong.
This, so much this! BPA is such a copout.
Where are the people that said picking Buckner would make the Niners defense top 5 in the league?

Could've used a non-mediocre QB too.

If Chip Kelly is in charge of drafting skill positions in 2017 we're screwed. If Baalke is in charge we're screwed. I think Chip will be gone for sure after the 2017 season. Don't want Chip in charge of personnel/drafting. Please no.
It can all go away if we hit on a QB first rd 2017, WR second, ILB third and a pass rusher via FA. Or pass rusher first, QB second, ILB third and WR via FA. We'll need two WR's. If everything works out perfectly we could be an OK/good team in 2018 with a new HC/OC/DC/QB. Chip Kelly will not lead us to a Super Bowl. It's not going to happen.

Trade him for a decent linebacker, not even a pro bowlers, just a decent guy, who can plug the run

Good grief:
"Insider Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area has refuted the rumor that San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith is on the trading block."

So we are, or are not shopping Torrey...someone started this rumor. 2014 and 2015 were like a leaky faucet around here with rumors. 2016, not as bad at first, but seems to be getting worse. Wonder if Paraag and Baalke are starting to feel some pressure?

Paraag is still in the building...dude needs to get the F out IMO he's been the leaky faucet.
I like Torry he's a good football player and a valued member in the locker room/community, seems like a good role model and could help some young rookie WRs (if we ever invest in one).
That said if we were to move him I think it would make sense for a LB (Kendricks and his contract), WR not named Nelson Agholor, or draft picks.
