Playcalling really wasn't that bad.

Torrey Smith has been exposed completely. Gabbert continues to miss open targets which makes it hard for the run game to get going. Antoine Bethea had the worst game of his career. We got almost zero pass rush.

The team fought...they came up short. On to Seattle.

First down play calling was horrendous. Defense was just stacking and run blitzing us like the old HaRoman days. 2 and 12, 10, etc. Then a smart defense pins their ears back with tight coverage. Carolina was WAYYYY more creative. It was the difference plus they executed better when needed (experience). Agreed with the rest though.

Exactly.

It's the opposite. Chip was running Hyde up the middle on first down just about every time. When he passed on first we did well.

Chip is doing what he did last year, being predictable in the run game and his passing is established off the run. He has been putting us in obvious long yardage passing situations. Same with the players that cant gain yardage running on first down but it is too predictable at this point. Chip needs to pass in first down more.

Taking Hyde out and handing off to Draughn worked once, but that also needs to stop. Draughn should be catching short passes on first down.

Overall playcalling in the third quarter has sucked both games so far this year.

No question! Constantly putting us behind the 8 ball.

I didn't get to watch the whole game (red zone and read on yahoo sports live) but I didn't see a ton of read option play in which he actually ran?

Carolina got no pass rush either.

I don't mind running it up the gut...you have to establish that you can do it consistently before anything else falls into place. My problem is the lack of use of Mike Davis to spell Hyde more and the fact that we have no one that wins on the outside.

Our guys were not ready for the Carolina heat. Oh well Seattle next week and I am so confident that I will be using my x3 in the pick-em contest on the Niners.

I had my x3 on the Niners this week.

Bad call. Ballsy call though

Homer call haha. I never tip against my own team.
Poor performance. We can point out small positives, but mostly lost for a lot of the same reasons we lost last year in Week 2:

Could not establish the run game
Poor QB play
Bad turnovers
Defense got absolutely scorched

Was this a better performance than last year at Pittsburgh? Yeah, slightly. We had a chance with the score 34-27 and quickly let it unravel.

Waaaay too many mistakes, and I'm sick of seeing this team so dysfunctional on the road. Entirely different team at home. NFL did us no favors with the schedule, but as we learned from last year, that's not the problem. We still have a lot of things to fix.
Without a real threat of a running qb the run play with Hyde outta shotgun is gonna be a struggle

Defense got gassed in the 2nd half in the heat. This is mostly on the offense's poor play, though. The defense simply wore down. Even when the offense got points it was on short drives and the one big play that got the defense back on the field too quickly.

While the points are similar, this was a better defensive performance than Pittsburgh last year. That was flat out bad play from the start. This was bad play after attrition.

Blaine Gabbert is 14-for-33. That's a completion percentage of 42.2. You can't win games that way

17/36 47% with a couple drops and coverage throw aways.

He needs to do better but we were still in that game with his 243 yards passing until that Vance drop.

We had 65 yards rushing at 2.5 yards per attempt.

Chip Kelly's offense is established off the run. His run is not established off passing.

Putting us in obvious long yardage passing situations all day killed us. Yes, so did some inaccurate passes but Gabbert didnt play as bad as the stats show.

I said it last week. The guy looks old and slow. He seems to get frozen too when the run comes towards his way.
1) let's see the film in the first place.
2) we played against one of the best offenses in the league.
In fact, our run game and secondary played far worse than Gabbert.

The overall problem with the offense is that it's too inconsistent, much like the play of the 3 QB's on the roster.

You can't be successful in the NFL and be inconsistent.
most important point imho:
new scheme which is not to be expected to gel immediately. On top of that, the talent is quite limited. Given that, the offense performed very good against the Rams and Panthers, respectively. 27.5 points on avg is not bad by any means.

Our Dline was worse than Gabbert. They gave up 100 to a RB named Fozzy and provided ZERO pressure.
