Franchise worth is all about market share, assets and annual revenue.

The new stadium is a huge asset (at least the portion owned by the 49ers). It also rakes in tons of annual revenue, much of it recurring revenue due to the seat license deals at Levi's stadium. Then there is market share. Due to the location and history, the 49ers have a very respectable share of the national market. That fluctuates with how well the team is doing. But it is a relatively small drop in the bucket.

sad commentary on the fan base when outsiders consider the team more valuable than some of its own fans do

No-one said that the Yorks were stupid at business. They just don't know how to build a winning football team.

Yeah as far as profits, great.

Winning? Nope.
49ers = Arsenal

Isn't it weird for fans to care about monetary value at all?

Okay, calmed down, just not a very well informed statement...

Even at Candlestick it was one of the top 5 in worth.

The reason is because we are the San Francisco 49ers and there are millions and millions of fans worldwide. Real fans don't puss out and stop supporting the team when they're bad.
The York's are good at business, Bad at football

We have a long track record.....You can't deny this.

Correct. The stadium and location make this franchise extremely valuable. Root for your team guys.

I root for them to win but why would I care about franchise value?
The salary cap has nothing to do with a value of a franchise. Every team has to spend a certain percentage every four years. Just because the 49ers are 50 million under this year doesn't mean it goes into Jeds pocket. That money will roll over to next year's cap and the 49ers will be forced to spend most of it based on league rules.

Jed is a pretty solid business man. He is respected by other owners because he brings in money. Driving the value of the 49ers up is good for the rest of the owners in the NFL. This explains why Jerry Jones is respected among his fellow owners despite being a constant loser on the field.

Us fans don't care about the money. We just want W's and championships. And that's how we evaluate whether an owner is good or not. Does he invest in the team? Hire good coaches? Scouting? Management? Does he do whatever it takes to win despite the costs?

Knowing what we know about Jed, his business abilities, and his lack of commitment to putting the best team and coaches on the field, it is easy to see how he can be respected by his peers and loathed by the fans.

I really hope he turns the corner. I'm not sure if he ever will. I wish he had that warrior mentality. I hate losing in anything. I can't stand it. Some people are ok with it. Right now, Jed seems to be one of those people.
Just read that Levi's cost $1.3B to build. So that's about half of it.
