How does the Rams trade affect us?

How does it impact us? If the QB they take is as good as Peyton Manning then look at how his team's division opponents fared for the 15 years he played.

If he is as bad as their last No. 1 pick - Bradshaw - then they just set their franchise back three years minimum.

Won't really know until the season starts.

to be honest, if I were a GM and I was looking for a QB of the future...I'd take 2 QBs in the same draft.. .both high if need be.

and continue to take one high the next year if one of them comes off as a bust.

yeah, but I'd only do that if I had a capable Offensive Line...... other wise I'm drafting/signing freeagent Olineman like crazy first and foremost.

Its not the contract that is the issue. If their QB struggles like most rookie QB's struggle, they could be worse than they were last year, meaning they lose out on a pretty high draft pick in a draft where there will be some truly elite prospects at the top of the draft, much better than this year.

They basically blew up 2 drafts for one player, if that player doesn't work out, that will be a lot of potential talent that they missed out on.

Well, if we had drafted Tom Brady (we passed on him 6 times or 7), and had we drafted Aaron Rodgers,, neither of those guys would be shoe in HOFers. Just wouldn't have happened with the ownership and F.O we have here. So now we aren't drafting one of the top 2 qBs in the draft, tho neither is in the Cam, Jameis, or luck league. They are jsut the best two QBs in the draft and are the 9th to 12th best players in the draft. And Rams gave up 2 ONES, 2 TWOs and 2 THREES.. For one or the other. Wow. That has Herschel Walker written all over it. Made Dallas and broke Minn. Usually those trades are great....for the team that traded away the first spot.

It just makes our pick that much easier. I had worried we might take Goff at #7, but he wouldn't help us immediately and we need impact players. Now we get one. If Buckner happens to slide to 7, we should thank the Rams. If not, we take Stanley, make him play OG, and when Staley hangs 'em up, he moves to LT. Plug an play, impact player and makes this OL look stellar. After that we just draft DEs, DTs, an OLB in mid rounds, and a WR later. Makes out draft pretty easy.

Oh, if Jack, with his "mixed opinions" medical report, Trent can not afford to take an all ACL, MCL or whatever player. Not at #7. This has to be a sure thing, and Mixed medical opinions are not what we wanted to hear. Anybody but Trent...maybe. But NOT Trent. What a shame because I loved the guy. Have not yet accessed the medical report so not certain yet, but odds are this is a no go.

How does it affect us? You seen Shawshank Redemption? The scene with Andy and the "sisters"? Yep...that's it.

Here's what we know. Drafting a quarterback very high and expecting him to justify that pick is a low percentage bet. It continues to get even more risky, because college offenses continue to separate further from NFL offenses. The reason these draft picks are so risky is that the defenses are so good at this level that you must be a very quick thinker and decision maker to compete, and you just can't properly evaluate this with simple college offenses and defenses. Physical superiority in college that resulted in success at that level simply can not be maintained to any significant degree in the NFL.

What does this mean?

1. If you believe you really don't want to miss on your high picks to build a Super Bowl winner, but still want to draft one of the three most important positions (quarterback, the guy that rushes the quarterback, or the guy that protects the quarterback), you have Way better odds drafting the physical talents of the DE /OLB or OT.

2. Since finding that quarterback is now a trial and error proposition in NFL offenses and against NFL defenses, quantity, and not just how high you pick, becomes a factor.

3. Evaluators that can evaluate the quarterback's ability to read, process, and make Very fast changes of plans is paramount. College quarterbacks can succeed largely on physical talent, whereas NFL quarterbacks must succeed on mental acumen, regardless of their physical attributes.

4. An offensive minded coach that understands the position and can teach his young scribe how to make those quick adjustments post snap is a must. We may have that in Chip Kelly. I have my fingers crosses. At least we don't have a conservative defensive guy that won't put it up until it's third and long, always putting his quarterback into a low percentage situation.

I am piss off because i was not happyw. We had f**k up our waste time for two of 1st round by Peterson and Plummer.

If the Rams take Wentz, and Cle really wanted him not Goff, I see Cle talking to us or the Eagles to try to trade picks. I'm not sure if Baalke even wants Goff and may have been eying his NDstate alum

Damn. Wentz looks pretty good too. His footwork is incredible. I'd be cool with either one, bucker or an OLmen.
