Some pro mock drafts have him overall better OT than Tunsil who is a real road grader on runs. But Stanley is rated a better passblocker, IIRC, and may be the better overall of the two. Tunsil is one helluva run blocker tho. So yes , dtg, he is one guy you would want. Just too good to be true, tho. Thing is , one of these guys, or Qbs ,is going to fall to us. Just no way to guess who. And everybody is guessing. We can't miss all the impact players PLUS the two QBs. You run out of number slots at #7 before you run out of Impact players + 2 QBs. We are set to get a Qb or a real impact player. Could be Jack...but nobody really knows. Just as we get one, I am fine, and that incl either QB, but I lean more towards impact player. Phoenix and MadDog convinced of the error of my ways, and that when a Franchise QB is there , you take him. Ques is how can one guarantee either of these 2 guys is franchise QB?
As madDog explained, Wentz is better than what CLeve has and Goff is better than what we have. You take QB in that situation. I agreed....reluctantly.

I wouldn't hate it but believe Spriggs or Ifedi would be nearly as good and would allow them to take Goff, Buckner or Jack in the first. But that's just my prejudice against taking an offensvie lineman in the first to play zone. Plus, if Davis actually does return it might be a guy sitting on the bench for a few years, which the niners can't afford this year.

Buckner was shooting up the mocks a few weeks ago, but I see him sliding back to 7th or 8th on some recent mocks...which often happens this time of year. Players will settle back to precombine levels.

Buckner makes Eli and Lynch both better. Goff or Wentz don't make anyone better this yr. But that's part of the price you pay for a QB. On a team wiht so many starter holes, it is easy to understand why one would want an impact D player as first pick. IF we knew kap would be here all yr, then no question , go for the impact player. But it is probably true, (not definitely,) that Goff will be better than what we have. So if there, I guess we take him...even tho I wanted to get an impact player there. Who knows, maybe Trent would be happy with a guy further down the list, which would give chip his QB and still get us the impact starter. Goff and Wentz are the two best QBs this yr. But are they franchise QBs? Good question.

bethea keeps the job but tartt pushes strong and will take over next year in my opinion. bethea is a good solid pro still

Have a feeling our Defense is going to be the fastest it has been since I can remember. s**t load of talent. If we can build off the top 5 play at home and extend it to the road, the talent on this defense is going to be relentless.

That's what a rotation is for , and we have a decent start on that, after a couple guys get well.

Last years 3-outs mixed with manginis terrible knack for calling blitzes at the worst possible time was horrific to watch.

My eyes are stained.

This year may not have a great record but sure will be fun to watch real play calling.

I had to have the rusty fish hooks removed from my eyes after last year. I put them in to reduce the pain of watching the games.

I'll admit...I'm a bit excited about the young talent on this defense. Young players such as Dial, Purcell, Williams, Armstead, Harold, Tank, Lynch, Hodges, Ward, Acker, Reaser, Johnson and Tartt all got some quality snaps last year (about twice as much as the young offensive players) and that should go a long ways towards helping these players mentally prepare for this year.

Throw in added competition now, new coaches, scheme, some players have a "prove it" card they want to hand in, etc. and this should be a pretty motivated young group. You hate to use last year as ANY kind of barometer but outside of week 2 and 3, this defense hovered around 10th-15th in points allowed the rest of the year and were the best defense at home. Those are big building blocks for a young defense under some pretty tough circumstances to grow and develop under.

So much will come down to defensive philosophy/scheme, game-planning and in-game adjustments from O'Neil but he certainly has some talent and some versatile talent at that...and now, some depth, more experience, and added competition and fire. It will certainly be entertaining to watch either way as this will be an aggressive, attacking defense. If we start to get beat again by a savvy veteran QB/OC, can/will O'Neil adjust?

This is why I don't agree with a blitz-heavy scheme or I don't mind blitzing LB's but over scheming and getting caught blitzing DB's or blitzes that put the back end on an island just seems counter productive to me.

If the defense has tons of speed and power, let that speed and power play straight up. Blitzing is mainly for teams that have a weakness somewhere in the front 7. We don't necessarily have that. Top 5 QB's always pick apart the blitz. They are like a RB that loves to juke, they love it when a defender flies at them only to put a quick move and create an even greater hole to run through.
