Looking at Hayne dominating the entire NFL pre-season against 2nd, 3rd and 4th stringers, a question is raised.

What is a stringer? And who decided what one is? And how ar they ranked from 1-4?

Everybody says Hayne was dominating 2-4 stingers so nothing special. But considering his lack of NFL experience - basically zero - what does that make Hayne? 5th or 6th stringer? 7th stinger?

So, you see, Hayne has been playing above his weight and performing quite well. So, a 7th stringer beating 2nd stringers. That's a 5 string jump. Is that a stat? String jump percentage? So Haynes SJP is around 3.5 which puts him in the top 10 of the entire NFL. no matter how you look it, that's impressive.

I'm happy that Hayne has taken some time off to spend with family etc, but I really hope he gets back into things soon. I'm simultaneously excited and worried about his future here, based on things I've learned about Chip Kelly over the last few weeks.

The exciting stuff is obvious, run first offense designed to get players in space, lots of opportunities to make RAC yards receiving out of the backfield, the heavy emphasis he places on ST performance (Eagles were ranked #1 ST in 2014 and #5 in 2015 according to BleedingGreenNation), the way an up tempo offense should suit Hayne's experience quite well. Man, I really want to see what he can do in this offense.

But then the reality check comes in. Kelly values RBs very highly and expects them to be able to run routes as well as a WR. In fact while he was in charge of personnel at the Eagles, he had more cap money devoted to RBs than he did to WRs - the second highest cap space for RBs in the league (only behind the Vikings because of AP's huge contract). From what I've read a lot of his passing plays have the RB as both the first (as an alert) and last (as a dumpoff) target, and he expects if a RB is covered by an LB, it's a matchup the RB should win. We haven't seen much of Hayne's route running, and while what we have seen hasn't necessarily been bad, it also wasn't great. It seems pretty clear that Baalke will bring in some more bodies at the position during FA and maybe late round draft (with the production we got out of cheap late season FAs I doubt he would spend an early round pick on one). So... does he even make the team this year? At this stage, I just don't know. I sure as hell hope he does.

I'm curious what others on here think about this stuff, both us biased Aussies, and our more experienced American friends.
