I hope Hayne returns to the US ASAP as well. I think he has spent enough time chillin' and catchin' up with his family and friends down under. He only has a few years left of NFL so it would be wise to make the most of his remaining time before training camp commences. He has a lot of competition ahead: Hyde, Harris, Draughn, Davis, Gaskin, Bush, and possibly some FAs. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make it tbh, but hopefully he does.

I believe Hayne has the mentality to play in the NFL. I think he has the body control and agility to play in the NFL. I think he lacks that short burst twitch muscle movement. His body was more built for strenuous long term stamina physical exertion and he needs to rebuild it for short duration sudden burst exertion. An NFL game only averages like 12-14 minutes of actual playing time. Hayne is used to running around for what, 4-5x that?
I am looking forward to see how he looks in season 2. He got his taste of what the NFL is last season. He will have a full offseason with team which should make a difference.
100% Agreed.

I'm happy that Hayne has taken some time off to spend with family etc, but I really hope he gets back into things soon. I'm simultaneously excited and worried about his future here, based on things I've learned about Chip Kelly over the last few weeks.
The exciting stuff is obvious, run first offense designed to get players in space, lots of opportunities to make RAC yards receiving out of the backfield, the heavy emphasis he places on ST performance (Eagles were ranked #1 ST in 2014 and #5 in 2015 according to BleedingGreenNation), the way an up tempo offense should suit Hayne's experience quite well. Man, I really want to see what he can do in this offense.
But then the reality check comes in. Kelly values RBs very highly and expects them to be able to run routes as well as a WR. In fact while he was in charge of personnel at the Eagles, he had more cap money devoted to RBs than he did to WRs - the second highest cap space for RBs in the league (only behind the Vikings because of AP's huge contract). From what I've read a lot of his passing plays have the RB as both the first (as an alert) and last (as a dumpoff) target, and he expects if a RB is covered by an LB, it's a matchup the RB should win. We haven't seen much of Hayne's route running, and while what we have seen hasn't necessarily been bad, it also wasn't great. It seems pretty clear that Baalke will bring in some more bodies at the position during FA and maybe late round draft (with the production we got out of cheap late season FAs I doubt he would spend an early round pick on one). So... does he even make the team this year? At this stage, I just don't know. I sure as hell hope he does.
I'm curious what others on here think about this stuff, both us biased Aussies, and our more experienced American friends.
To me because Hayne lacks intense prolonged NFL experience that the likelyhood that he gets on the 53 Is questionable. More likely he will get to learn chips schemes from the practice squad and then earn his way on to the team.
His confidence has been an issue and confidence comes from knowledge both conscious and subconsciously and ther is no way he has enough yet.
I agreed that he should have stayed in the USA until his job was done but there are good reasons for coming home for his mental, state.
The mentoring he is getting or not getting is what bothers me about his status. I mean who the heck told him getting a clothing business was a good idea? Just one more distraction he doesn't need.
You often see really good athletes who haven't quite made the next step get derailed by stuff that isn't central to them being the best they can be. He has to be mindful of ending up as a footnote as to what might have been.

Well he was dominating against McDonald employees who aren't in The NFL anymore.Originally posted by J_Train:FOOTBALL!!! We love it.
Looking at Hayne dominating the entire NFL pre-season against 2nd, 3rd and 4th stringers, a question is raised.
What is astringer? And who decided what one is? And how ar they ranked from 1-4?
Everybody says Hayne was dominating 2-4 stingers so nothing special. But considering his lack of NFL experience - basically zero - what does that make Hayne? 5th or 6th stringer? 7th stinger?
So, you see, Hayne has been playing above his weight and performing quite well. So, a 7th stringer beating 2nd stringers. That's a 5 string jump. Is that a stat? String jump percentage? So Haynes SJP is around 3.5 which puts him in the top 10 of the entire NFL. no matter how you look it, that's impressive.
Is. Vodka and orange a girls drink? That's what I've been having.
And it's not a reach to say that since he was a top rugby player that he'd at least be good against the lowest skilled NFL players.

You make it seem like he 8s a seasoned vet that just needs to fine tune his game.
Are there any of these in the draft that you would like to see in chips scheme? Do you think Baalke will take a high pick for a running back? His class of 2012 wasn't real good by his own admission as well as the free agency from last season. Do you think Baalke has learned from those mistakes?
With the comments Baalke made about Hayne recently do you see any chance for him not to keep Hayne around even if it is on the practice squad?

I want them to draft Kenyan Drake RB/KR/PR fast and agile. Baalke always drafts a running back somewhere in the draft. I think they will go after a RB in the draft at some point and probably one in FA. They will be looking to bring in a guy that can share the load with Hyde. With so may draft picks in rounds 5,6, and 7, they all won't make it and usually they try and get those guys on the practice squad 1st. I think if Hayne has a shot to make it as a 3rd RB, but if he doesn't I don't think they waste another year on an older player on the practice squad.

Thanks for the response.
Baalke has a thing for players who have had injuries (nasty broken arm in Nov 2014) so I think you might be spot on. At least he came back a played well.
I like the look of Ezekiel Elliott. Thoughts?
And in FA is Lamar Miller a possibility?
The Hayne situation is looking like a good drama piece to follow.

I don't think we take Elliott, he will be a 1st round RB. We usually do 3rd round and after. Lamar Miller is great, but I don't think he would come in and split carries. I would love Miller though. Maybe an older guy like Forte or something along those lines, a RB that doesn't mind a reduced workload.

If the Hayne era ends, there will be plenty of NFL lifers nodding their heads and talking about the athletic superiority it takes to play in the league. And while this is true -- and Hayne mentioned how rattled he was by a few hits -- he's probably come closer to bridging the gap than any non-punting rugby convert yet. Yes, there is an athletic superiority required to play in the NFL, but imagine the skill set it takes to learn an entirely new game at the same time. - Connor Orr
