Does Jarryd Hayne make the team?

Love the hit at the end. I don't want any player to get hurt so I'm glad the other player got back up, but man, that was a wallop.

In league that is called an in and away. That one was very subtle, really no more the the slightest shift in body position and step pause, but enough to cause the cover to check his movement and slow down and then miss.

I think defenses will catch on to this. I noticed when he runs left, he looks to still cut to his right. He did that in his first long run in the offense early in the preseason and does it almost all of the time on returns. His first move is always to his right. Let's see if defenses and coordinators begin to key in on this. If I were a gunner, I would aim for Hayne's right, miss or hit, and force him to make his first cut to his left. It will slow down his returns.
They will certainly do this, but you can tell from his carry vs Chargers when he took the play left, dead legged the same way then cut back that he can still be effective. Good players adapt and NRL teams do similar homework. He's only just really started working on the first step quickness needed for NFL, and concentating on being more explosive in general. I'd assume that they'll drill first steps on both feet to remove dependence.

A fair bit for him to work on, but he's already improved noticeably. More aware of his pad level, starting to sell plays he's not involved in, and he'll get better at pass protection soon enough. He's effectively learning on the job and so long as he gets game time he'll be quite valuable this time next year. I know the NFL is highly specialised, but top NRL players like Hayne can do so much it affords a lot of flexibility in a roster. Could even punt if Pinion blows a gasket.

That is a terrible and ridiculous looking picture. I'm embarrassed that it's on this site.

.. its not supposed to be serious. It's funny.
Yes

In what way, Geckko? Hayne is strong both sides but exceptional left to right. R/L combos are common, and the Storm negate GI that way. Their record vs Souths speaks to effectiveness. PM so we don't clog the thread bro.
Absolutely.

You are seeing what you want to see. His side step (cut) is one of his major weapons. By definition when you are running left you step right. When you run right you step left. It is effective because defenders have to change direction.

Example: his "hey mister" return. Turns to space, loops left, burns cover on the OUTSIDE. Approaches sideline, looks inside but jukes LEFT with aid of block.

Dallas game swing left. Palms LB cover and maintains left line no cut.

Try the opposite. His, only, KR, against Texans. Start right, big cut back left.

I can tell you it is what he does. Changes direction quickly causing tacklers to miss. If he is running right he steps left if left he steps right.

Said he was very good both ways, mate. Just that he's really strong left to right and seems to prefer it. Not a dig at Hayne. The best defences in the NRL had trouble whatever side he ran. Not sure what the issue is.
How long before the final cut?

Sorry misread your post and drinking too much!

Still don't agree with you that league players have a side bias. If you want to play first grade, both have to be second nature. That's the nature of the game. If you play an open side, it gets used and you the need to play the opposite open side.

I have never seen or heard anything to suggest Jarryd has a weak or preferred side. He has classic core skills and carries on the far side pretty much always.

Case in point, his biggest fend so far was in left sweep, bl in left hand, fend with right.
