Are you happy with the draft?

Good job, good effort.

susweel, is that you?
Absolutely NOT HAPPY. I like the Armstead and Harold picks but hated the rest. Where are the playmakers for the offense? Blake Bell in the 4th round are u kidding me??? Mike Davis is decent but Smelter ACL 4th round??? Just not smart. Jaquski #46??? Way too high. Why not move down and gamble??
I am dissapointed. Not in the players selected. I might have gone a little different but we drafted good players. I am dissapointed in the way the draft fell.

I would have liked to see 1 of the top 3 receivers drop to us at #15. Didn't happen. I would have liked a top tier CB to drop to #46 like Byron Jones or Marcus Peteres. Didn't happen. I would have liked Williams or Walford, the top 2 TE's to fall to us in rd 3 - didn't happen.

We could have seen a little more luck in the draft but as far as who we drafted we picked quality players.
When 1/3 of the team that starts comes from rds 4-7, unless you can get the first 7 picks in the draft, you want talent. Well, we got some really nice talent...and some of these later rd picks under Tomsula, not barbaw, are going to get their chance. And THAT , to me is really refreshing. Either this thread or elsewhere , cc noted how important it is to see what we got from what we drafted.. harbaw didn't think that way and hence, we ended up with three drafts, not knowing what we had on bench . And for my money, we did great on talent, and now it is up to Tomsula to coach them up....with his incredible staff of asst coaches. I love what trent did.
Even if you are a homer arguing that Baalke is drafting for future talent that is a stretch. It makes sense to say that when the FO is grabbing earlier round talent in later rounds - LikeThomas last year. But this year, they seemed to be drafting guys ahead of their expected ranking. Goofy. I don't see anyone drafted except Arik that will can replace or be better than our existing starters. So this is a Dud draft to me.

Shoot even the long shot Latimore made sense due to the possible upside. But no one like that in this draft class.

Hell, yeah. We done good and those that think otherwise, prepare to get a good surprise. QB coming manana either UDFA or in 7th.

Herm edwards just dropped a nugget on ESPN. 1/3 of all starters around the league come from rounds 4-7 or UDFAs. Think on that one awhile.

That's a great stat, pasodoc. I had no idea.

lol thats over 50% of the draft plus UDFAs, why is that so surprising ?

Because a lot of people don't really value rounds 4 - 7+ UDFA on draft day. They obsess over rounds 1 - 3, thinking they comprise nearly all of the best talent in the league. Obviously not true.

People upset we didn't go offense in the 1st 3 rounds, but we took 3 really good prospects in the 4th. Just because they're 4th rounders, and not 1 - 3 rounders, doesn't automatically mean they won't be good. Once these guys are drafted, draft status mostly goes out the window. Now it's about performing and proving their worth. I like the guys we picked.

I am not happy, sad, or mad about this draft.

I believe we have to wait to see how these players do on field.

Here is one opinion that seems positive.

San Francisco 49ersDraft pick: DL Arik Armstead (No. 17 overall), S Jaquiski Tartt (No. 46 overall), DE/LB Eli Harold (No. 79 overall), TE Blake Bell (No. 117 overall), RB Mike Davis (No. 126 overall), WR DeAndre Smelter (No. 132 overall), P Bradley Pinion, OL Ian Silberman (No. 190 overall), OL Trenton Brown (No. 244 overall), TE Geoff Swaim (No. 246 overall), TE Busta Anderson (No. 254 overall)

Day 1 grade: A-
Day 2 grade: B+
Day 3 grade: C
Overall grade: B-

The skinny: GM Trent Balkke likes to move around in the draft, and Thursday he managed to move back just a few spots and land a number of quality selections on Day 3.

On top of that, the 49ers landed one of the most versatile defensive linemen available in Armstead, who can develop into a dominant player. Tartt has plenty of upside at safety and will help support the run in a division where run defense is essential. Harold had first-round talent, but the 49ers were able to get him in the third.

Davis can help fill the hole Frank Gore left behind while Smelter has obvious upside given his measurables. Punters are people too but using a fifth-round pick on one?

No. Too many reaches, not enough drafting for areas of need, and a freaking punter in the 5th round. Wouldn't give it an F because they actually had one decent round in the 4th.
We are screwed with the CB position. Baalke is going all in on our front line to get to the QB quick enough..

Baffled by the punter in the fifth. I can't imagine he would not have lasted to the 7th. I really like the rest.

What!? I remember the complete opposite. I remember virtually everyone being thrilled with Lynch. He was billed as a first round talent that dropped due to severe character concerns. Most were ecstatic we took a chance on him.
Time will tell how it plays out, but for now I'm at peace with it.
