This is another myth that keeps getting passed around. In Kaepernick's first game against Chicago Aldon Smith gets 5 sacks and I think there were a couple by other players as well. The defense completely shut down the Chicago offense. The Niners pound the ball with Frank Gore and Kaepernick hits one long pass to Kyle Williams and all of the sudden everybody oohs and aahhs because gosh, Alex Smith never throws passes like that. Next game against New Orleans the defense gets what, about 12 picks off of Brees and they pound the ball with Gore, Kaepernick avoids any turnovers, and Ahmad Brooks seals the game with a pick six. All of the sudden everybody is creaming over Colin Kaepernick because he hit one long pass and managed to win two games behind one of the best defenses in the league. The rest of the year opposing defenses are trying to catch up to the Pistol formation and Kaepernick makes them look silly on occasion with his legs. Everybody oohhs and aahhhs, oh he's the next generation of QB in the NFL, overlooking for the moment that he has already started his string of horrendous play against the Seahawks. He has one shining moment in that season where he manages to come from a score behind New England after blowing them out in the first half but then Cowboy gets hurt, the rush isn't as good which hurts the corners and safeties which allows Brady to come roaring back. New England goes ahead and LaMichael James makes his one contribution as a 49er by running the ensuing kick off back 60 yards to set up Kaepernick at the New England 40 and to his credit he hits Crabtree for a TD on the next play. Then to his credit he lights up the Packers with his legs because they keep letting him get outside their containment and run for a jillion yards. So Kaepernick's reputation is built essentially on having completed two long passes and making some good runs when opposing teams were still trying to figure out how to defense the Pistol. They get to the Super Bowl and instead of going with a QB who was in the top of five of every metric used to judge QB play in the NFL and had many years of game experience under his belt, Harbaugh decides to go with the "hot hand" of his young QB with all of what 9 starts and thus becomes the first 49er head coach in history to lose a Super Bowl. To which my response has always been f**k Harbaugh and f**k Kaepernick

They were not very good in the postseason. Kap carried them through the GB game and that's not debatable. Our defense did put the clamps down in the 2nd half vs the Falcons though. And then looked like s**t again in the biggest game of their lives I don't think we even got close enough to breathe on Flacco

Frank Gore carried the team through the playoffs.

Please don't blame JUST the defense in that game, there were a lot of factors as to why the 49ers loss the Super Bowl. Again, unfrickin believable the bias opinions in here.

Definitely a lot of factors. Coming out unprepared (penalty on the 1st play of the game). The fumble by James killed some early momentum. Kap had a turnover. But our defense sucked, every time we needed to make a play, we couldn't get off of the field. We couldn't get anywhere close to Flacco all game and that's unacceptable for a "top 5" defense. The offense at least looked good quite a few times in that game. The defense looked bad, damn near all game

Fact is in the post season of 2012, the defense stepped up EXACTLY when the team needed them to, allowing only 23 points in the second half of 3 games:

vs. Green Bay, they only allowed 10 points in the second half.

vs. Atlanta, they did not allow any points not even a field goal in the second half.

vs. Baltimore, they only allowed 13 points in the second half. One touchdown in the 3rd quarter and two field goals in the 4th quarter.

How is that not stepping up in the playoffs?? Remember it's not how you start, it's how you finish.
