Does a top 5 defense matter when it doesn't play like it in the playoffs? Like, if you want to talk about the regular season, sure...but in the playoffs the D was not top 5 level. If it was, we would have had an extra SB.

Yes, because it goes to show it wasn't ALL the QBs effort that got them there was it? Or is it my bad cause Kaepernick played on defense too? Holy smokes the bias is strong.
For those who think Krap is or was better then Jeff are trippn'. Garcia never had a Super Bowl caliber team around him, the last teams that had that kind of talent was the 97' N 98' Niners team.

Garcia actually still performed well his last Season here N that team had already been in the process of being blown up.
I would suggest the QB market has spoken...and supports those who think Keap is not elite. I also suggest NFL evaluaters..although not perfect...know at least as much as us fans. The owners, GMs, coaches have all spoken...and with the exception of Elway...none have come knocking. A true elite QB hitting the market....would send them into a frenzy...and they would do almost anything to get one. So...as much as Kaep was part of the team...he was simply part of the team.

And Kaep never had the coaching, offensive system or talent on offense that Garcia had, what exactly is your point?

Guy had Rice and Owens. His 3rd receiver was JJ Stokes. Garner/Hearst in the running game. Had Mariucci, Greg Knapp, Marty morningwehg, all highly regarded offensive coaches.

Garcia was the better in the regular season...But again, many factors at play that you seem to ignore.

Do me a favor. Name a team who has traded for an injured QB. I'll wait. So caught up with stupid labels. Elite this and that. If the team isn't winning who really gives a s**t?

Except he didn't hit the market. He had to be traded for via draft picks and he's coming off his worst season plus multiple injuries not to mention how little teams need a starting QB. And no one said the guy was elite, lol. We are saying he has the potential to be elite, nothing more.

He is not a true elite QB and he did not hit the free agency market in true form.

Point I'm making is simply stating that the 49ers were good on both sides of the ball and that one side didn't carry the other, they go hand in hand. But like I said let's disregard the 49ers defense you're right it was ALL Kap that carried the team. Smh

So they were top 5 for their postseason performance?

They were not very good in the postseason. Kap carried them through the GB game and that's not debatable. Our defense did put the clamps down in the 2nd half vs the Falcons though. And then looked like s**t again in the biggest game of their lives I don't think we even got close enough to breathe on Flacco

Especially in an offseason where Bradford was signed for a 2 year $35 mil deal. LOL. You would think SOMEONE would have pulled the trigger on a trade.

Keep was there for the taking should another have made a play for him. TB says he was simply letting Kaep explore his options but we all know it was more than that. Injured or not...and we are not talking serious injury...there are numerous teams who would like to have a top tier...top 15 even...who is coming off an injury. Kaep is not anywhere near a great...elite...top tier...whatever. He did some good...great...things but has dropped off. Can he get back there? As a Niner fan...nothing would be better....but based on not just last year...don't think so.

Hmm? I'm counting about 25 points per game the defense gave up, at least with regards to the 2012 postseason. 24 points in the Packers game, 24 against the Falcons, and 27 against the Ravens. I don't care one way or the other about all this since it's in the past, but if we're going to focus on facts, I think it might help a bit to get that corrected.

This. Kap fans always take the total points against and use it against the defense while disregarding Kaps pick six and Jacoby Jones kick off touchdown and say derp, the defense have to 34 to Baltimore and 31 to Green Bay!! They also forget that the D shut Atlanta out in the second half that allowed Kap to make the comeback.

People who hate Kaepernick seem to rewrite history a ton. Like the idea that Kap was carried by our defense in 2012 is an absolute joke. Our defense was horrendous down the stretch and through the playoffs in 2012. The only reason we made the Superbowl was because of Kaepernick.

He has majorly regressed, but that doesnt change what he was.

It kills them to admit Kap carried us because their favorite player has never carried a team at any point in his career lol. All anyone should know is that the 49ers ended up losing and everyone should hate Kap for carrying us to that point, and that their boy ends up losing every year too but nobody should hate him for it.

Kap fans still talking about 2012 as if that's somehow relevant. If you have to go back to 2012 to defend Kap that alone should tell you he's done. Enjoy the nostalgia.

Wasn't defending him. Was pointing out the reason you're still mad lol

Lol. I'm not mad. Kap played like sh-t and got benched. I enjoyed every second of it. Hahaha!

Please don't blame JUST the defense in that game, there were a lot of factors as to why the 49ers loss the Super Bowl. Again, unfrickin believable the bias opinions in here.

Definitely a lot of factors. Coming out unprepared (penalty on the 1st play of the game). The fumble by James killed some early momentum. Kap had a turnover. But our defense sucked, every time we needed to make a play, we couldn't get off of the field. We couldn't get anywhere close to Flacco all game and that's unacceptable for a "top 5" defense. The offense at least looked good quite a few times in that game. The defense looked bad, damn near all game
