Exactly.
All signs point to Kap being back. Anything short of a direct quote from the FO will keep faint hope alive for those who don't want Kap. But, it's just hope -- not substance.
The Niners need a QB. They have a crap load of money. Kap has had success in the past. Kelly has been linked to Kap in the past. The top 1-2 QB options will be gone in the draft. Jed wants to win right now. Baalke needs to win right now.
Kap may be gone in 2017. But SF has the money and incentive to give him a one-year "tryout" in a new system.
All signs point to Kap being back? What signs are you reading? The ones in the bottom of the tea cup? And your comment about keeping "faint hope alive" certainly flys both ways.
When asked about the "rumors" (and that is all they are) that the Eagles wanted to trade for Kaepernick, Kelly said he had no idea where that came from. I think all of this crap that gets posted linking Kelly and Kaepernik is just that; crap. So Kelly once said he admired Kaepernick, so what? How many other QB's has he ever expressed admiration for?
That said, we will see how this all plays out, but I am truly tired of posts talking about a "link" between Kap and Kelly that is a figment of everyone's imagination. I have no idea who the starting QB will be, if Kaepernick is even truly in the 9ers plans, or what the deal is. But to automatically assume that Kaepernick walks into the facility and gets the starting job is ludicrous because of some magical "link" to Kelly. Just like it is ridiculous to assume he couldn't be the starter if his play matches Kelly's expectations.
We don't even know yet if Kaepernick wants to come back. Yeah, he may admire Kelly as a coach, may even like him, who knows? But there is more to the puzzle than that. Even though I am no fan of the way Kaepernick has played the last couple of years, I think the FO hung him out to dry. I don't know the real story either about his injuries and the way the FO and the medical team handled that, but Kaepernick could have legitimate concerns there. Those would be serious issues to me as a player.
I don't think we will have resolution, or see any "signs" for a while yet.
At this point all we really know is that he was benched, he had injuries that may or may not have been handled properly, his play has fallen off (regardless of the myriad reasons pro and con), his target rehab completion is approximately the same as the time frame to make a final decision on keeping him, from a purely money standpoint, and that Kaep hasn't made any statements about where his head is at in all this. How do those known's and unknowns figure to make his coming back a sure thing?
Way too many things to look at for those that are Kaepernick fans to think that it is a slam dunk for him to be back here. No slam dunk for his detractors that he will be gone either.
Personally, I am a 9er fan, not much of a huge hanger on to players who aren't producing. If Kaepernick walks in the door healthy, goes to work, impresses Kelly and starts for the 9ers, I am going to be ok with that. But if he doesn't, I am not wasting any time on pining away about it.
