Yup, that's what I recall too.
frankly I'm not sure how much of the Bears game he played, but I am sure Magnuson finished the game at RT after taking over for him--sometime in the first?

doesn't change your point--a very valid one--that the o-line blocking will improve with the addition of a very fast, explosive and decisive RB.

also doesn't change the fact that shanny is looking for o-linemen who get off the snap quickly and execute their blocking assignments consistently, imho

But--if he comes into camp out of shape and loses reps to others who are in shape and ready to roll--he could lose his job--to GG, or Mags, who took over at RT in the Bears game last season and earned some praise from shanny for finishing the game despite a season ending injury to his foot.

TB is not a lock at RT--yet. He's got a lot to prove and improve. imho.

For sure. Magnuson, IIRC, had a rough day (41.5 grade per PFF), but that wasn't his fault. He was injured and playing widely out of position. With Kilgore gone, he'll probably be able to focus on just C now; his best fit.

Gilliam is going to get a lot of first starter reps to begin TC too. And keep your eye on Darrell Williams Jr. I have no doubt we'll be adding a T just in case TB prices himself out in FA or falls on his face. We have Staley at 33 to think about too.

He, like Sherman, aren't locks for anything until they get 100% physically healthy and who knows how long that will take. It's a 6 month recovery, at least, putting his timetable around June.

Aside from health though, it's really Laken Tomlinson and Joshua Garnett that we should be mostly worried about esp. if Suh signs with the Rams.

Also, this:
Brown suffered the shoulder injury in practice leading up to Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks. He was inactive that week, but played the next week against the Chicago Bears. The injury was not quite right and he was inactive in Week 14 against the Houston Texans.

I have a feeling Gilliam is going to be in a similar position to Kilgore. In that if they get a good OT in free agency (or more likely the draft), he might be gone. If I'm correct that Beadles took over TB's spot after TB got injured, Beadles did ok in the subsequent games - not great, and the stats say we had a better run game after TB went down. He seems a lot quicker than TB and perhaps he can become a better pass protector. But that remains to be seen.

"the stats" seem to provide more evidence that TB's job may be in jeopardy--"we had a better run game after he went down." think shanny knows this? I just hope TB is aware of what he's facing and responds with determination.

if he did it was only a snap or two, or a single series. iirc. Magnuson played RT in his place and finished the game w/ a torn ligament in his foot.

Your memory is off. He played the entire game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hADLqB2XEU

Well, they didn't extend Brown, and probably one of the reasons is the injury. So to the extent he doesn't heal, yes, his job is in jeopardy. Having said that, I think Beadels and Gilliam have more to worry about than TB with regards to job security.

I'm thinking Beadles will be the next cut once an upgrade is found. In terms of effectiveness, Gilliam can actually play whereas Beadles has been pretty non-functional hence the reason why we acquired Tomlinson.

I agree, Beadles has looked terrible in a couple of goal line situations and allowed hits to Jimmy. The OLine will be invested in draft-wise, no doubt about it in this next draft. You don't pay a franchise QB 137 million and ignore the OLine in the draft. The question I have is will they invest in a high round pick or go more towards the lower rounds for a OT. If they envision Brown healing and being moved over to Staley's spot when he retires, then I'd think they go lower. If they think TB is a concern, they probably will pick high 2nd in the draft for an OT.
I really trust Shanahan to find the best fits on the OL. If he loves Brown? Fine! If he wants to start Magnuson, Tomlinson and Beadles? Fine. Just don't care at this point as they had one year to learn and adjust, while dealing with injuries. My guess is that Staley and Brown will start at OT and Richburg at C. Other than this...I do not care until the first game of the season. Trust in Kyle! Or not...

I saw at least 4 blown protection calls where there was a free rusher who had undeterred access up the middle to the QB. TWhy we acquired Richburg?

Brown was injured already for the Bears game. He got hurt and they started Magnusun. Magnusun got hurt and they went back to an injured Brown. That wasn't working so they were forced to start Beadles the rest of the way.

No, that's not "fine."

But to your bigger point, it's such a peace of mind knowing your HC actually knows how to build an offense AND scheme to its strengths.

It makes me sick to think of this team being turned over to Nolan and Singletary for so many years! Like flushing money down the sewer. Now? Hooray! JG has fallen into a great situation! And so have we...at last!

Brown played 100% of the snaps that game. 75 total.

You can see the brace on his right shoulder. I saw two pressures that you'd never see from him. That right arm was dead. You could see him try to run block by turning sideways and lowering his shoulder vs. just shoving the defender out of the way with both hands.

IIRC, he said he might have done more damage playing through this game, hence the I.R. and immediate surgery.

Get healthy big fella.

Amen to that!
The guy I'm struggling a bit with is Tomlinson...I'm reading a number of reports about how he improved as the season wore on. I didn't see any great improvements...so not sure where that analysis is coming from. I think Garnett will be fine...but we haven't seen him on the field with his transformed body. If Nelson somehow falls to us (not likely, but one can hope) I'd say he's a no-brainer. If he doesn't, I'd still love to see Lynch draft Isaiah Wynn...he could not only start at one of the OG positions, but he can literally play anywhere along the OL.
Staley
Tomlinson
Richburg
Garnett
Brown

Not bad, with draft full of guards coming up....we will be fine

We better not have both of those guys starting come Sep. And we better have at least one good OT as a developmental player to be the heir apparent (for either side).
