I suspect a large reason they don't draft OL much is because Foerster believes he can make it work with undrafted and vet free agents in 4/5 spots as long as Trent Williams is there. If there was a OL coach who desired better talent to work with perhaps they'd provide that talent.

That would be scary because it means Kyle and John have zero clue about offensive line. My point being Kyle has to actually agree with Foerster for this to be the case, otherwise why not fire him already etc
Didn't they add two new coaches to help the Oline? With those 2 added I was hoping for a opening to the Oline picks...

Yup plus they got a few FAs to compete in camp... they at least made a half-ass attempt to band aid the position

But still no love for cover safeties

It seems Kyle thinks our inability to separate and get down the field was a bigger problem than pass pro and run blocking. The a certain extent, he's right. We could have a top five pass pro and run blocking O-line and I still don't think we beat Seattle with last year's receiver group. Maybe he figures more speed, pass catchers, etc is the way to open things up. We still would need to upgrade in the TE department to get more blockers and guys that can add contribute to the passing game, Robert Jones is probably the starter at LG and this is what we are running with. I do think they should do a much better job of getting pressure on Darnold, which will change the whole dynamic of the Seattle games. Offensively, I still don't expect do a lot against them. Not given who they have added to their defense We won't be beaten down as badly as we were in the playoffs, but they still look to be ahead of us.

Yea that o-line that got us 1 game away from the number one seed and one game away from the NFCCG may be ok.

1. I'm not saying the O-line is bad. I'm saying they can't hold up against Seattle, even with better talent at the skill positions.

2. I think Kyle believes the lack of talent and speed at receiver was the bigger problem. I agree. Things should be a lot more open and there should be more space.

But this won't stop Seattle's DTs from mauling our IOL. You still have to create running lanes and those are created by moving guys. Who do we have that is going to move the Seattle D-line around?

We also can help ourselves by getting extra possessions. I don't see the team being any better in the turnover department. With that said, the pass rush is certainly upgraded. So maybe they are relying on our D-line to get Sam Darnold seeing ghosts again.

If your QB spends all game long running for his life or own his back you aren't beating Seattle no matter how many weapons you have.

Not to mention the inability to run against their front.

I'm sure the Oline that Seattle ran a train on the last two games of the season will be much improved with thosec bargain basement acquisitions in free agency.

Not necessarily directed at you but I will take this opportunity to ask.
At what point was there someone that could handle their pass rush? Was anyone available that is a clear improvement this year?

Or, as you mentioned, the better choice is make them backoff and create space.

Football is a numbers game, and Seattle is dominating it. Weapons don't matter when every window is small and every throw is contested because Seattle is dropping 7 into coverage all game long. This s**t isn't rocket science. The 49ers can't run the ball against a light box, and as a result, Seattle doesn't feel any pressure to change their defensive structure or personnel. This is a major f**king problem right here. Seattle can stay in pass-heavy defense while also eliminating the run. You can add all the weapons in the league, and it's still going to be extremely difficult to pass the ball because they've got the numbers advantage in coverage.

If you can't force them to respect the run, you can't force them out of that defense. If you can't force them out of that defense, you won't be able to effectively pass the ball. Again, this s**t isn't rocket science. Shanahan echo'd this exact sentiment yet...nothing changed.

I didn't even touch on their ability to get after the quarterback with only 4 rushers. The 49ers have the inverse numbers problem when it comes to pass blocking: they can't block 4 with 5. They can't run the ball against a lightbox, and they can't pass block Seattle's 4-man rush. And what they did they do about it? N-o-t-h-i-n-g. Niners' fans have right to pissed the f**k off after how the season ended right now.

I agree with this approach. They got CMC for pennies. They got Trent Williams for pennys. There are some good ones out there already - and if the team they are on team implodes - and a newbie coach needs draft capital and cap space, I can see them getting an elite left tackle in that kind of trade situation. Trent was a round 1 pick 1 kind of hall of fame level talent - it's very unlikely we'll be picking that low if Purdy is our QB and he stays relatively healthy during Trents remaining years.

We actually beat Seattle in the first game last year. If we can beat their man coverage we have a shot. Rams showed this when they played them in the playoffs, Seattle beat them in a close game.

Biggest difference moving forward is that we will also be getting after the Seahawks QB, similar to how they will be coming after ours.
