Its interesting to note that those first trade downs (pick #27 to pick #30) and (pick #30 to pick #33) were preceded by teams picking an offensive linemen just before the 49ers would pick.

Personally, I think ShanaLynch thought they could get an OLine pick in the first round - but had to trade back because their guy was poached by another team, when their first round pick came around.

Are we gonna sign zeitler? Sounds like a forester kind of guy. Might class up the place. 75 pb grade, 900 snaps last year. I'm in.

Let's kick in for his 401k and medicare part b and roll out the red carpet please.

Biggest difference moving forward is that we will also be getting after the Seahawks QB, similar to how they will be coming after ours.

While we didn't really make big improvements on the line, if we stay healthy, these games against Seattle will be closer than people think. Seattle's going regress this season, too much turnover both player and coaches, so I'm not buying into the doom and gloom matching up with them. IMO, the Rams are who we should be worrying about more, they're the better team, but they did us a solid reaching for that backup QB in round 1.

I agree they will regress - how much remains to be seen. But the 2023 Superbowl runner up niners regressed to 6-11. So there is hope.

If this comes true I am going to throw up.

Yep that would be very frustrating.

Dude literally turns 34 at the start of the season and already has arthritic knees. Let him play out his contract year and let your others compete to replace him.

Toth, Willis, I'd even consider Puni who took snaps at center during the senior bowl when he was doing the pre draft process.

Foerster is a convert to the Shanahan system from his time working for the Commies and Mike Shanahan. He's bought into the draft philosophy that you only invest in OL in the 1st when it's a generational talent. That the difference in talent between a late-1 OL and a mid-round OL is much smaller than other key positions. The team should focus on those other positions early and get specialized players that fit the OL scheme later.

Most of the fanbase refuse to accept it, but they actually like McKivitz and Brendel. They haven't completely quit on Puni yet like some fans have. They brought in Robert Jones and drafted Carver just in case Zakelj and Colby aren't ready to step up at LG. They are still searching for that dependable swing tackle depth where Cruz will get a shot.

Makes sense to me. Gonna be cheap. A reminder that people wanted to sign Drew Dalman last year, who ultimately signed with the Bears for 42M/3 and was essentially a sidegrade. Dalman ended up had a strong start to the year but an injury led to him falling off toward the end of the season and ultimately retiring. Linderbaum just got 81M/3 this year.

I was hoping beyond hope that there was some kind of transition plan. It's not evident, but with Brendel's contract expiring I figured they had an idea of who they wanted as their center in 2027 and beyond. I've been advocating for Dominick Puni as the COTF in his thread or for real draft capital invested in the position. Seeing Logan Jones go in the 2nd round was a rude awakening. I know he is starting this year. Hoping (theres that word again) they just let the contract expire.

I was glad they passed on Dalman. We've been burned twice (no fault of our own) by the big free agent center. I'd rather they draft and develop one- something talented enough to start in year 1 or 2 as a guard, not these long term projects that become bottom of the roster guys like Nick Zakelj.

Good post.

Yes, much of the fan base refuses to accept Brendel and McKivitz. However, Brendel finished the season as the #8 ranked Center in the league and McKivitz was, coincidentally, #8 among all 84 OTs. Those are very high rankings. Neither are elite but both are well above average across the league.

Just off from age, we should be developing a young Center to replace Brendel. In the meantime, we could do a lot worse. FWIW, Seattle's Center ranked #20.

Agree. In addition to the players you metiones, I'll add Colby and Zakelj as possible future centers, Drake Nuget is also still on the team.

I also agree that there isn't much difference between a late day one OLine pick and a day two pick, simply because the OLine operates as one unit. Puni was a day two pick, and Mckivitz was a day three pick. They work well together. The analogy in a sense is that the sum is greater than the parts - *if* you get the right parts.
