PFF grade of 92

What? Who is paying them?
PFF is an absolute joke.

I agree. They need to go back and watch the game, Brendel is always on his ass.
Brendel got the worst grade on offense from PFF for this game...

But I get it, its much easier to write posts and parrot and complain about PFF than take 3 seconds to see the actual grades.

Brendel has been ass all season yet he's graded out high multiple times according to PFF so I stand by my PFF is a joke comment.

You really haven't been following their rankings very well. IIRC, he was rated as one of the top 5 in a game when top 5 went down to the high 60s (that was the only time he appeared in that list. (It was wining a trophy for being the Least Ugly Girl at the Dance.) That is considered low-to-average by PFF. At that time, his PP ratings was in the mid-50s, which is "replacement grade," but his run blocking stayed in the up 70s which is "well above average." That gives him a ranking amid a field of mostly below average to poor centers at #8 as of today.

The problem is, when an OL misses in pass protection, it is highly visible. However, when the perform well in run blocking it is hard to notice.
You think they can handle the Falcons' front seven / dline?

They're pretty light, but they got speed... it's not artificial turf so maybe that benefits us

Leonard Floyd will probably fly by all five offensive linemen each and accumulate 5 sacks all by himself

I doubt Kyle would ever do an in season change, but I agree Forester or whatever his name is should go after this season. Let's try some new young blood.

Agreed
One of the KNBR guys this morning made a good point. If we want to improve the team this year and next we should be looking at trading for IOL positions. We probably won't make it deep into the playoffs with our losses on D, but we can at least field a competitive team if we move from Brendel and Colby. McKivtz should be next but we committed too much $$ to make him a backup.

Tough to watch this in general, but also because Vita Vea went three picks after the Niners took McGlinchey back in 2018. Vea is such a difference maker in the trenches.

For this year, really hoping Puni turns things around if he's healthy (not sure he is considering how bad he's been this year). Need Bartch back, too, as Colby is still learning and just looks overmatched too many times. Brendel, though he's been durable, is just not the answer at C. Really hoping the team finds a better solution at C but may not be until next offseason.

What's the argument for firing Foerster, aside from "O-line suck, coach must pay!"? I get it, I'm not a happy guy, either, and I'd sure like to see some real change.

That said, the fifth round and above draft picks that he's coached have all gone on to sign lucrative second contracts (often with other teams). Granted, he hasn't done much with his sixth and seventh rounders, but, well, they're sixth and seventh rounders, right?

I'm certainly open to the idea that coaching is a part of the problem this year, especially with the run game. But, on the other hand, it's fair to point out that chronic under-investment in the O-line is a big part of the reason why we're not able to run the football and we can't seem to keep a QB healthy. Worse, we have two young guards playing injured and we don't have the depth available to give them some time to get themselves right. This all suggests bad FO roster building strategy.

But it certainly doesn't exonerate Foerster from all blame, it just suggests that his job is harder than it really needs to be. I'd be curious to know more about the argument for firing him. I've never been comfortable firing folks that aren't set up to succeed and I don't think Foerster has been set up for success. I'd like to learn more about why he needs to go.

That sounds nice but IOL is weak all across the league. We see the picture if we compare PFF ratings of Tackles versus Guards: there are 26 Tackles with a rating of 70 or higher compared to only 16 guards. Center is even worse. Only 6 Centers rate a 70 or higher. For that reason, teams that have good IOL players aren't going to trade them. The players that are available, believe it or not, are worse than what we have. Getting Bartch back to replace Colby will be a big help. The rookie is just not ready as a pass protector.

As to McKivitz; I don't see all the hate for him. He is playing very well, currently rated #16 among all tackles. His Pass Protection and Run Blocking ratings are nearly equal. Considering there are 30 other Tackles that are being paid the same or more than McKivitz, he is a bargain, and we have him under contract through 2028.
