I'm quite optimistic right now. Odds increase if Colts win, obviously. But if Gase is their guy they'll wait for him.
Want but can't have: Harbaugh

If somehow the Broncos implode offensively this weekend, do you think it hurts the odds? Or in your opinion do you believe Gase has shown and proven enough as it stands?

Want----I do not have a favorite candidate.

Gut: definitely feels like an ulcer in development.

Just want the coaching staff to be determined.

Just want to know if Justin Smith is going to retire.

Just want answers. Am sick of reports, rumors, and guesses.

I agree with the want and dream. Unfortunately, I also agree with the gut, but I really hope the front office realizes that it is too hard to hang on to a good OC (even Norv got another shot after proving to be a coordinator and not a HC in previous stops) and that the side of the ball that truly needs coaching is offense. Walsh always said that you can coach up/win with scheme on offense, but you need athletes on D. Just one of many simple yet brilliant observations by the genius. Most NFL teams know this, and that is why there are more offensive specialists that get first time jobs than defensive coaches. Fangio is a solid D-coordinator, and although he would have the respect of the players (especially the defense of course) I just don't see him being able to find and just as importantly keep or replace a good offensive staff in place. We also don't how good Fangio really is because his players are so talented. The job he did this year was very impressive, but every other year he's been here we've been stacked on D. We did not have Aldon or Bow (he was a rookie behind Spikes) until Vic got here, so the fact that the D elevated it's play can't be solely attributed to him. His simple, straightforward approach is smart, but really it would be dumb to take too many chances too often when you can play straight man cover 2/simple zones and stop the run with only seven and still be so effective. For this team, which has talent on both sides of the ball but clearly has more talent on D, it is especially important that the offensive side of the ball get more attention. You need the coaching more on the side of the ball that you are weaker, ala Gruden improving the Bucs offense enough to not suck so much that the defense couldn't overcome it. Not too long after that, Dungy's defensive schemes elevated the Colts D enough to get Manning (who just needed someone that would stay out of his way offensively) his only ring. So if we hire Fangio, our D stays the same, but we likely don't get the offensive mind we need. And if we get lucky and do find a great o-coordinator, he'll be stolen by another team quickly. Call this overthinking it if you want, but I don't see the upside in promoting Vic. With this team especially, you bring in the best offensive guy you can. Kaep has the tools and is willing to put in the work. Let's get him the brightest offensive mind available who can both develop his pocket skills and play to his current strengths.
