Love that deal when it boils down to home field playoff game discussion. These are the 2 games that separate making it in and hosting games. And we know where the SB is going to be

I havent read this whole thread, so maybe it was addressed in here......but something I almost never hear Niner fans, analysts, or reporters talk about is how poor our return game is. And not just when Ellington was hurt. All season long.

Our long kickoff return on the season is 38 yards. Our long punt return on the season is 23 yards. Those numbers are a JOKE.

Games can be changed by a big kickoff or punt return. That is something that is severely lacking with our team and hope it is addressed next season. But seeing as how it has been a problem for us since Ginn left, I doubt we will address it.

Best name in NT. Epic. All I can picture is Wallace relentlessly going after Jr. Seau in the Superbowl evergreen after the whistle. That DOME!

Anyway I could not agree more. We are SO boring on ST no doubt. Always have been.

A ton of talent to work with. It all starts with the offensive philosophy, the HC/OC who can teach the game, it's subtle details for success, etc. We need that chess player!

We signed Trindon Holiday for that.

Players likely to be off the 49ers roster in 2015: Justin Smith, Ahmad Brooks, Perrish Cox -or- Chris Culliver, Michael Crabtree, Brandon Lloyd, Mike Iupati, Jonathan Martin. And if we restructure the contracts of S. Johnson, Kaepernick, and a few others, we can afford to sign 1 blue chip free agent and 2 second tier free agents.

- Torrey Smith - WR, Baltimore Ravens - we all know this guy. Great speed, smooth route runner. Plus we have Anquan Boldin on our team to help recruit him. This could be our blue chip signing. Mike Wallace could be another guy we look at if Smith's price is out of whack.

- Pernell McPhee, DE/LB, Baltimore Ravens Info - rotational player right now, but he can split time with Aaron Lynch at one OLB spot. 8 sacks, 20 QB hits, and 35 QB pressures...not bad. Skuta, Lynch, Aldon, and McPhee with Lemonier continuing to develop...that's a good damn combination.

- Jared Odrick, DT/DE, Miami Dolphins Info - Odrick can replace Smith, while Tank and Dial can compete for McDonald's role.

With those three signings, it opens up a lot more options in the NFL draft - including trading down to pick up an extra 3rd. You could come away with Devin Funchness (WR), Arik Armstead (DT/DE), Tre Jackson (OG), Jay Ajayi (RB), and Ladarius Gunter (CB) in the first 4 rounds of the draft. And that's a reload.

Still concerned about the philosophy fitting the personnel. One reason I like Shanahan is his line blocking schemes...which our guys might struggle to accomplish. So I can see some major changes on the roster...depending on who the coach is. One thing a new coach will need to do is tell the OL if they don't improve in pass protection they won't be on the team long. Line might eventually be Staley/Thomas/Kilgore/M Martin/Boone or a rookie at RT. If they throw a bunch of money at Iupati I will be disappointed.

One of Walsh's great abilities was to create and call plays with options built in for varying defenses. Having the QB read progressions was key and Kaepernick has to learn that skill if the WCO is installed.

A list of key players for next year--if they use a WCO:

QB: a vet to compete with CK.
RB: Hunter, Hyde, rookie
FB: Millard, Miller
WR: Boldin, Johnson, Ellington, Patton, rookie
OL: Staley, Kilgore, Thomas, M Martin...others as they fit the scheme.

DL: J Smith, Carradine, Williams, Dorsey, Dial, Jerod-Eddy, rookie, FA?
LB: A Smith, Willis, Bowman, Lynch, Borland, Moody, FA, rookie
CB: Brock, Johnson, FA, rookie, Reaser, Acker
S: Bethea, Ward, Reid, Dahl, FA, rookie

Young players to be excited about:
Borland
Hyde
Ward
Thomas
M Martin
Reaser
Acker
Ellington
Patton
Johnson
Ramsey
Millard
Carradine
McDonald
Dial

Questions about development: can these guys become starters? Contributors?
Patton
Lemonier
Carradine
Ward
Okoye
Skov
