What is the worst 49er loss of the modern era?

The '87 Vikings were not insignificant - they had one of the most fearsome defences in the league. We still should have beaten them but it's not as if they were awful.

They finished 8-7, scraped a wildcard birth and beat probably the best 49ers team ever assembled before being summarily dismissed by the Skins. Within the context of what was left and the expectations on the 49ers they were insignificant.
How is the SB or NFCCGs not on this list.
Eddie D getting into gambling trouble and losing the team to the Yorks......

SB loss has to be the worst. You can't lose a bigger game.

Older fans will probably say the 1990 NFCCG. Montana injured, Craig fumble...brutal. Luckily I was too young to witness that one.

The 1991 Roger Craig fumble by far. They would have been the only team in NFL history to 3peat and would be the undisputed greatest dynasty the NFL has ever seen. Charles Haley would already be in the HOF & so would have Roger Craig.

When i see threads like this, im reminded how much time has passed since that game even though I still remember it like it was last week. that loss should go down as one of the toughest losses of all time, but youd have to be atleast 30 to remember the magnitude of it. losing the Superbowl didnt hurt half as much as that game. Joe Montana wouldnt play another meaningful (came back in garbage time one last game b4 being traded) snap as a niner ever.

It was for a threepeat. We would have put up 5 rings over a 10 year span. We all know who the greatest dynastic team of all time was, but after that Marshall hit on Joe, it left the door open for pundits to compare them to the 60s pack, the 70s steelers, the 90s cowboys or patriots of today. We threepeat and the argument would have been over for decades.

that loss was bigger than a superbowl to me, it was a greek tragedy.

1. Super Bowl
2. '91 vs Giants
3. Seahawks nfccg
4. '83 Divisional vs Skins
5. 2011 vs Giants

I cried every game.
1991 - the threepeat fail

2012 - 1st and 7 at the goal

2011 - NYG kyle williams fail
Losing a coach that took them to 3 straight NFC Championships and 1 Super Bowl because the owner is a tiny little manchild LOOKS PRETTY HUGE TO ME.

This, definitely the worst. It was a tragic, premature end to the team that we all, still to this day, hang our legacy on.
