I wouldn't be surprised if they get a starter on the defensive line out of this draft. D-linemen can sometimes step right in. I'll be they'll at least get someone who is going to be solid in the rotation. Their window is still opening. Think about it. Kaepernick will only get better. The D-line will have more depth next season - that's almost a given with the depth of D-line talent in this draft. And if any receiver they have or can get through FA or the draft steps up to be a true #2 or even equal to Crabtree, that offense will be absolutely explosive. I don't know why people aren't more optimistic about Gore - he showed this year that when he's being spelled during the season, he's solid and ready come playoff time. He may not have breakaway speed, but he still hits the hole and makes people miss and I don't know why he can't do that for a couple more years. And really, as much as I like Gore, the window doesn't close with his decline. Running back is actually one of those positions where someone can be plugged in easier than a lot of them. Assuming Kaepernick is what I think he is, they could be contenders for another 8 years.

Are the 49ers a "MISSED WINDOW" team?

I forget his name, but there is a Gore-like runner with severe knee injuries that they might pick up on the second day. But, I agree with you - they don't need to use a pick on a runner this year. D-line, D-line, D-line, Safety, Kicker and maybe throw a receiver in there.

Are you talking about Marcus Lattimore from South Carolina? Dude is in A-P mode rehabbing - docs say he is 3 months ahead of schedule and they keep having to slow him down

Right. Lattimore. He is the only running back I've seen discussed as a possible Niner pick.

We're at the dawn of the career of a Niner QB who, by some ESPN analysts' estimates, might end up being one of the top three QB's in the league, 19 of 22 of Niners starters on a team that just went to the Super Bowl (and should have won) are under contract, they've got one of the league's best coaching staffs, they've got the most picks of any team in the draft, they're in good cap position and they've got an owner dedicated to winning and building a new stadium.
You've got to work real hard to look at that set of circumstances and see a fat lady coming to the mike.
And, is there anything more bitter than a Vikings fan? How many trips to the Super Bowl have they had without winning. And, when was that, anyway? The Stone Age? Those bitter jackasses can call Harbaugh any name in the book, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that they'd kill to have a head coach that gets those kinds of results.

vikings are the biggest underachievers, they were just a joke in the 70's when they went to those super bowls . they were such a cocky bunch but in those games chuck foreman vanished, the purple people eaters were whimps, fran tarkington was exposed and they got thier ass kicked every time! plus all of the vikings fans have head lice

I agree! Queen fans are the worst. And the spineless team has more choke-jobs than any other.

LOL
That 41-0 loss to the Giants in the (2000?) Championship game when they were like a ten TD favorite goes down as a CHOKE for the ages.

This. Now that we have a true franchise QB at the helm our window is going to be wide open for years to come.

Missed window? Not at all.
How about "incredible 2 year start to the Harbaugh era?"
Teams like the Colts (with Manning), the Ravens, the Patriots, etc. have all been in this situation and they all got over the hump to win Super Bowls. It took Peyton Manning 9 years to finally win a Super Bowl, after coming oh-so-close year after year.
The Niners are a VERY talented, mostly young team with a superb front office and a coaching staff that, in my opinion, is the best in the league.
Sit tight, we'll be back. This is only the beginning.
