Or lets say every game ends up in a tie for every team. Somehow I don't think they have an answer for this in the rule book.
It would go down to point differential :

Pack and Panthers try to battle for playoff spot and chaos ensues.
The good ole days. That was the year that Young got knocked out (career ending hit). The Niners-Packers were slated to play on MNF, and everyone circled it as the game of the year. Lo and behold that the Niners AND Packers both went into the game with losing records. The Niners, of course, finished the season 4-12, and the Packers had to go on that scoring frenzy to qualify for the playoffs. Which was all in naught, as Dallas won their finale to clinch and knock the Packers out.
Damn...the Niners-Packers were teams of the 90s....but geez, did both fall from grace in 1 year's time.
That vid is amazing. I miss the old NFL Prime Time.

How good did the Giants look in most of their loses last year? How good did we look in our 3 loses (regular season) last year? Most teams don't look good in their loses, which is why they lose. I think everyone realistically expected 2-4 loses this season. To think we were going to "look good" in our loses is unrealistic. Sometimes you give your best and you get beat, like New Orleans against us last year. But usually, you lose because you don't play good football. And that happens to all football teams. Even the great 49ers teams of the past.

How have we even won 1 game???? This team has the WORST defense in the league and a QB that would be a third stringer on any other team... Also Harbaugh is Rex Ryan 2.0 so we better fire him before its to late!

i will post one time here and then i am leaving,, I am in no mood for anyone to tell me "its ok", calm down" relax"... If you people do not think there are problems in this team you are just whistling past the end zone and it has NOTHING to do with who the quarterback is.We could have won that game yesterday with either quarterback and if alex can not play monday then i am confident ck can do the job. What I am NOT confident about is our defense, special teams and pass protection and the last two have been a concern all year but when we play s**tty teams the mistakes we make get glossed over or ignored by the head in the sand crowd. Pass protection worries I have are usually covered up by the excuse that alex takes unneeded sacks,, again you are whistling past the end zone. The refs did not cost us s**t yesterday. for the third time when under pressure our defense not only came out flat but imploded at crunch time.there was NO excuse for that horses**t defense played yesterday, mistakes made by taking your helmet off and no excuse for willis getting blown up by jackson. You have a f**king week to prepare for a bottom tier team and you play like that? they should have lost and it would have deserved them all right.an "elite" team and defense getting owned by the rams and our "special ed" teams getting fooled twice by a fake punt. jesus.Do not give me the peter king line that it was more about the rams being decent. We are supposed to be an "elite" team that "IMPOSES OUR WILL" on teams. Of course i will be called a non fan, of course i will be accused of leaping off the cliff with susweets damn cat. pass protection and penalties have been problem matic all year and at this time of the year with our allegedly " elite" coaches and players that s**t should not be happening. i am sure we will finish at around 10-6 and thats nice and maybe they will rebound monday esp if cutler is not going to play,, but my friends there are some issues with this team, they look far from elite to me and three times this year our"physical" team has been punched in the mouth and thier answer is to take thier helmet off and get out played and out coached by a bottom tier team.

The team looks avg most of the time. We struggle against the Rams at home. What are we gonna do when we play better teams coming up. Only one guy gets sacks. We drop ints, cant tackle, are getting gashed every week against the run, dont throw the ball down field past 10 yards, get tricked on a fake punt twice (thats on the coach) kicker sucks do you want me to go on?

^^^^ Valid concerns. I've listed mine all year even in wins. It's the same ones over and over and it starts with the coaching philosophy, game plans, adjustments, etc. down to the water boy. Same exact issues over and over which then circles back to coaching. The Rams took the extra time to study us and game plan better than most. What did we do? How did WE come out?

cciowa--if you are still here--many things are in need of improvement, you are correct, but just as the NYG looked terrible last year mid-season I believe the niners are treading water a bit before gearing up for the playoffs. Is it scary? You bet, because they haven't shown the ability to do what NY did last year.
The niners have had three games this year seemed really lackluster--Minn, NYG and StL. All of these teams came out and out hit SF, but only Minn and NY kept it up all game. St.L was there for the taking if Smith hadn't been out.
Does it concern me? Yes, but it's a long season and this team is midway through the second season adjusting/learning the WCO Harbaugh style. So consistency really should not be an expectation.
You are an emotional poster and I enjoy reading your posts...so keep emoting...it's good for our balance, perhaps I'm too complacent.

we continue to fail doing what we "CAN" control. how hard we play, how we come out, how we respond when getting punched, penalties, mistakes, stupid little things. the little things make up the big things and the problems I see on this team have NOTHING to do with adjusting to the west coast offense. right now aside from pass protection I have little worries about the offense no matter who the quarterback is, i love alex but whether he played or not was not the issue in my opinion yestereday, did he get faked out by a fake punt twice, did he decide to remove his helmet at a key time, did he fail to provide pass rush, did he get blown up by steven jackson on a blitz.

We didn't play well, but you're not giving the Rams nearly enough credit. They aren't the same sorry ass team of the last few years. They are well coached, and we all know what a difference coaching can make.
The Rams aren't going to go away, in fact they are going to get better, so you might as well get used to it.

Those were the days with no NFL Network, and ESPN didnt go into NFL OVERKILL (like they do now). Quality segments on quality teams on important topics. Now all you see on ESPN and NFLN is segments on Romo's jockstrap size and Rex Ryan's low carb diet and how those things are affecting the team. It's a watered down coverage of the NFL.
I remember I couldnt wait to watch NFL primetime Sunday nights. Now, I dont even bother watching sports news after the games. The Niners could win the SB, and the headlines would be "Are the Cowboys done", "should Vick be replaced", "is Tebow the future". Damn shame.....

Well, the tie kind of feels like a loss (especially since it was against the Rams). So I get the premise of the thread.
Some will point to our defense, which doesn't appear as dominant as it was last year. But honestly, our defense has been solid except for a few breakdown's here and there. We are loosing because of a significant drop-off in our special-teams play. Last year, Aker's would have made that 41 yarder in overtime and we would be 7-2 right now. Last year, our coverage units would have given our defense more favorable field position. Last year we had by far the best special teams in the league. This year, we have among the worst.
