What to do with Colin Kaepernick???

Where is the option where he remains the backup and Alex Smith resigns?
Slap his ass and call him Sally

well the selection options are kind of weird/bias.

If you mean, keep him and pickup Alex's contract for the 2013 season....then yes that option doesn't seem to be up there, and its pretty realistically possible....depending how Alex finishes the season and how Kaep competes during OTAs, Training Camp, Preseason.

If you mean we keep him and Alex Resigns after his contract is up (in 2 years) then that would most likely not be possible...because Colin would leave through free agency...but most likely we would trade him the beginning of his last season. (this is all if Alex is playing great and consistent enough for the FO)

but back to the poll....you mean 35% of you out there are ready to extend Alex another 5 years? Based off last season and so far this season?

would the same 35% of you have realistically been fine with extending him one week ago, before the Cards game???

Neither.

Keep him as backup and reassess each year to make sure we are starting the best player.

This makes sense to me.

Let him take over when/if he's ready.
Well, considering the Alex Smith haters all wanted JT Osullivan to be our years out starter we should trade Smith, trade Kaepernick, and be darn sure we go get JT Osullivan back right away!!!

Shoulda listened to them all along!!

JTO didn't get 7 years, didn't have the right coaching, didn't give JTO enough time to develop, no weapons, no WR, porous defense.
Not a good post by yall

Absolutely nothing unless Alex goes down with an injury.
Keep him and you have a good #1 and a good #2. He hasn't proven he can be #1 yet. Maybe someday. He will sit a long time if Alex can go 18 / 19 with 3 TD's and 0 Int's.

After 2014, both will be at the end of their contract....
come 2014, I'm sure Smith will want to remain starter, and Kaepernick will want to become a starter after sitting for 3-4 years...

Worry about that when the time comes. For now worry about 2012. That will sort out depending how they each play. Alex will either be our clear starter by 2014 or he wont. So it will sort itself out.
What is all this JTO stuff? The only thing the two players(JTO and Kaep) have in common have is they were/are backup qbs to Alex Smith, that's it!!!
Kaep is not ready,Kaep can't do this, Kaep can't do that,Kaep is unproven... Gobble, gobble,gobble... There's only one way to really find out what Kaep is or isn't as a player, that's getting on the field and playing. Sorry if I offend anyone, but I only see one advantage in Alex's favor, a huge one no doubt about that and it is game experience.
Thank god Thanksgiving is right arounf the corner. Should make for a few less turkeys running around
