I don't think the FO was serious about Manning, too much money and health issue. They just wanted to take a look at him, no need to make it a bigger thing than it really is.

2. Niners were skeptical, but went out to have a look out of respect for Manning and due diligence.
3. Niners quickly knew that the asking price and control-factor wasn't palatable.
4. Niners did Manning and their agent a favor by pretending to stay in the hunt.. thereby driving up the offers from Denver and Tennessee.
