It's probably over for Carlos, but by signing Cox it does put pressure on Rogers to know that 9ers have got someone to take his place, and at same time, puts pressure on ginn to know 9ers have someone to take HIS place. I double agree with NCommand, SMART SigNiNG. Our boys are out there wreaking havoc at dimestore prices. I like it.. It does not preclude carlos and ginn from coming back and resigning if they don't get what they want, but at no where near what they thot they were worth. Really clever move, way to go B& H. I bet one or with luck both of ginn and carlos come back here asking for way less than they thot they could get on open market. Out of left field, a surprise left hook . Way to go guys.

this is what you find funny? No wonder you didn't enjoy all the Cox jokes.
lol.
Bottom line this signing shows us that
A. We are not afraid to gamble on "character issues"
B. We are prepared to walk away from both Rogers and Ginn
C. We are clearly saving our cap room for a particular signing or should we opt not to bring back Ginn and/or Rogers after they've scoped out the market. Maybe a free agent WR or 2? After all CB is nowhere near as pressing a need as WR is even if we lose both Rogers and release Spencer.
Should this signing pan out and we dont retain Rogers or Spencer our training camp DC will be
Brown / Culliver / Brock / Cox / Holcomb - With the potential to still add a CB through the draft.

I think Spilman is ahead of Holcomb, don't think Hol is even on the team...

spillman is a safety, we use him as a extra CB/DB in our goal line package. Holcomb will get a shot to make the active roster, I wont bank on it but like i said that is our training camp CB DC if we dont retain Rogers.

And playing in OH means he may be more familiar with poor weather conditions, rain, wind, etc. People forget that fielding punts in Candlestick may be one of the hardest things to do. He seems very decisive in his returns and has tremendous visions. I actually thought Ginn became less and less decisive last year and was getting wrapped up in the first wave often. He did secure the ball well though. If this kid can hone his craft, he has that added ability to make a guy miss and get to open space and drive it as long as possible.
Guys such as Moss and Cox are being brought in as specialists and as a fan, we should be happy b/c 1) we have a FO/coaching staff that can actually recognize our needs 2) willing to do their homework (and you know they do!), find and develop skill sets and trust the locker-room character/chemistry as evidenced by giving players a second chance (humble factor - see Cox, Moss, Goldson, Ginn, Alex Smith, etc.) and 3) this FO is very serious about winning no matter where we can find the pieces
High Reward:
Moss = Alex throws high naturally; winds in Candlestick on deep sideline/post routes and Moss is THE best at adjusting mid-air and winning that battle; speed of a deep threat forces CB's to back off as well as the S's which opens up everything else. We could be seeing a more mature and humble Moss? Quality need specialist fit with potential for more.
Cox = Showed lots of production when he played in the pros already as a CB. Could end up being the #3 even pushing Culliver/Brock and esp. if Rogers leaves. Good size, technique, angles, etc. Quality fits in scheme for both defense AND ST.
Low Risk:
$ and clauses/incentives/de-escalators in their contracts (is there any doubt)? You perform, you earn your incentives and if you don't, no loss as there already are (or will be) other players ready to take your spot. This does NOT mean we are still not trying to sign Ginn/Rogers.
