According to his twitter account, Goldson isn't happy with the offers he's received from the Niners so far. Some guy told him he needed to stay and he said tell them to come correct. I really hope we don't lose him with what we have lost already.

Screw his greedy lil ass. Mo money mo problems.
I don't see how Fangio can even get out of the gate with a defensive scheme, without some specific, immediate, FA signings for the defense.

Urgent Immediate Needs:

Sign a starting quality, under age 30, FA CB (could be a slot guy).
Sign a starting quality, under age 30, FA FS. (could be Goldson, maybe not)

Real Needs, but can wait 1-3 weeks to resolve:

Sign a back-up, veteran CB. (team needs 6 NFL quality CB's on 53-man roster)
Sign a starting quality, veteran FA OC for 1-2 year fill. (Kreutz or O'Hara?).
Sign a veteran back-up QB, with arm AND feet (Dennis Dixon-type).
Sign a young, tall-ish, veteran FA WR, with a solid health record (Crabtree is not a core player - he will leave SF as soon as his contract expires. In the meantime, he can't stay healthy. Neither Williams nor Zeigler can stay healthy. Morgan and Johnson are short. This position needs a durable player with some size). Malcolm Floyd would look nice in a Niner uni.

The acquisitions of Applewhite and Grant to provide competition at LB is good.
The acquisition of Corcoran to give Norris some FB competition is good, since the DE/FB draftee from South Florida has a neck/shoulder injury - not a good sign for a lead blocker).
The signing of McDonald is solid. (Franklin has not factored into Fangio's plans from Day 1. Franklin has burned his bridge with SF and will not be re-signed). Will Tukuafu or Ian Williams is going to get Franklin's roster spot.

BREAKING: #49ers re-sign NT Franklin http://bit.ly/pZ0gVx #NFL

Monday, August 1, 201149ers re-sign NT Franklin
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the 49ers have agreed to terms with nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin on Monday. Terms have not yet been disclosed.

Franklin, who San Francisco franchised at a price of over $7 million for his services last year, was an un-restricted free agent and will be returning to the club for his fifth season.

Since free agent negotiations began last Friday, the 49ers have been relatively quiet on the free agent front. Franklin represents the team's most significant signing to date and will help stabilize the team's defensive line that will be running a 3-4 scheme. The team also re-signed defensive end Ray McDonald to a five-year, $20 million deal last week.

He is an unproven 5th round draft choice that was beat out for the starting job by a rookie.
Samuel wants out of Philly. The Eagles are rumored to want a second day pick.
Malcom Floyd WR
Kevin Boss TE
Franklin- if right price
Goldson- if right price
Lawson- I am a manny basher, but right price, ok as a coverage OLB
Trade Frank Gore for picks

Maybe a 3 is too much. I don't think so. He's familiar with coach H. Played well in his offense at San Diego state. He was beat out by one of the best young qb's in the game. Alex Smith or JJ??? I'm saying JJ everyday.

Where's a link to this story??

Ok, this is not intended to be a York or Baalke bashing thread, so let's keep that to a minimum. This thread is asking what moves would it take for you to be happy with our roster after a so far dead free agency period. Please be realistic.

For me it would be: sign Kreutz, sign Malcom Floyd, resign Goldson, resign Franklin, and sign Carlos Rogers.

it's already too late for them to please the fanbase. They already missed out on too many players that would have filled needs.

By the way, besides Kreutz and Floyd, everyone else that you want to resign would probably piss everyone off even more. Goldson and Franklin aren't worth what they want, so signing them would mean we'd be severely overpaying both of them. Franklin has fallen off and Goldson is terrible. Carlos Rogers is also HORRIBLE.
