He's gonna cost us another game or two if we keep him. We could have been 9 -7 last year if it was not for this CB.

Why do people keep posting this crap? Yes he fumbled a ball away, when he could have just went down. That would have WON us the game. But if he didn't make the INT in the first place, it wouldn't have mattered. So no, we would not have been 9-7 last year "if not for this CB".

If you were playing corner you would have picked that pass.

And you probably wouldn't have fumbled it.
I'll miss Nate. He was awesome in run defense and honestly, was a pretty damn good cover corner but he did allow the occasional KILLER deep ball. Plus, his contract was ridiculous, theres no way he is worth that type of money and there is no way he will get anything close to that anywhere else. I still hope we sign Nnamdi/Joseph and then somehow find a way to bring Clements back.

Not a smart move on Nates part... shoulda just restructured

not if he feels he can get more than what the Niners were offering him elsewhere.

Wish Nate the best but his time was up with that salary

RT @NateClements: I wud like to thank the 49ers organization for giving me the opportunity to play for a team with history and tradition.

i sent him a message on twitter saying the 49er fans are glad he's gone
49ers fans staying classy.

I hope we get J. Joseph, and Carr.

It's hard to stay classy with all that Nate did wrong and that contract he received. I'm preaching to the choir here but I'm glad he's gone if he wasn't converting to FS. A Mickey's for the few good times Nate provided

Nate did some good, but for every 2 good plays, he had 5 bad ones. I'm glad he is gone, but I was just saying it might have possibly been a little too much to post that on his twitter. No hate though, his terrible play the last two years I guess could warant such a response.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the 49ers are one of the teams showing interest in free agent defensive back Johnathan Joseph.

Also in pursuit are the Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, and Cincinnati Bengals.

San Francisco was not previously connected with Joseph and this may be a result of recent news that Houston has moved to the lead in the Asomugha sweepstakes. Joseph may be a fall-back option.

depending on the disparity in pay, I might like the Jospeph deal better. I just have a hard time paying one dude so much money when we have so many question marks.

Go big or go home.

You only go big (Dieon Sanders, Russ Francis etc when you are a couple players away from the SB, truth be told we are not there yet.

You go big when there is a clear need to improve a position that is ranked in the last quarter of the league. You obviously want to build a team through the draft, but we have failed badly in that department and there is no clear successor for that position in the near future.

This regime has only begun and you are labeling the past on the present. I don't believe the sins of the father should be heaped on as the sins of the son-Dr. York on Jed, McClueless on Ballke, and Nolan/Singletary on Jim Harbaugh.

If you bankroll the team now, you will live in mediocrity (mid-level) for years to come. This is a new year it was done before-I know a lot people want a Neon dieon kind of deal- but if JH and comapny are as good as we hope-why can't they pull off a R. Lott, Eric Wright, Carlton Williamson or McKyer and Griffin deal?

Thanks for the life lesson. I am now much wiser.

I still think the secondary will suck ballz. The only improvement here is the new secondary coach. Fangio is unproven and while Manusky wasn't sexy, he still had our D in the middle of the pack while he was here. Getting rid of Nate puts us in a we will see situation. It depends on who they bring in to replace him.

Fangio has coached in the NFL before as a DC, according to FO people he is the next best thing as a DC is you can't get the Packers Dom Capers if I recall correctly.

The last time he was a DC it was with the Texans in 05' and a lot has changed in the NFL since then. I couldn't find his D's rankings during his tenure, but I remember reading that they weren't too sexy.

I remember reading that he pretty much had the Jimmy Raye EFfect on defenses he coached, so thats why i am concerned.

Jimmy Raye effect

Losing like 3-4 starters on a a team already iffy on defense.

Kinda hard working with a bottom feeding new franchise team -especially when you don't have any people.

Oh, right. I forget that 49er fans are used to the 15-year turnaround plan. 5 years wasn't enough for Fangio to turn that D around.

Exactly. Forget about the other 55 minutes of playing time where our Offense wasn't doing chit to put some points on the board, its all Nates fault!
It's great that Clements has some highlites of good hits/tackles. However, he was being paid big $$$$ to be a shutdown corner and never played above avg during his time with SF.
so much for my Clements jersey.. f*ck

I don't get how many board members think a restructuring of Clements' contract is a lock, or even a probability.

He knows that the Niners are chasing his replacement, and the moment one of these CB's is signed, he is gone. And, why would he volunteer to restructure? I think he'd rather make $8 million in Baltimore or Tampa than $8 million in SF.

Listen to the Dog.

Congrats on predicting that Nate Clements would get cut, Kreskin. Any foresight on which direction the sun will appear tomorrow morning?

Only problem is we haven't signed anyone yet. If by the end of tomorrow the only person we've signed is Carr, then I'll be worried.
