Why shouldn't Vernon like Smith, in less than a whole season of games he helped Vernon tie the all-time record for TD receptions by a tight end? You conspiracy theory guys that always try to read more into someones words than what they mean are absolutely laughable. Most of the time people say what they mean.

Here is my view; The tweet that was quoted should be taken with a grain of salt. I dont think he was being sarcastic or serious. I see it more as a figure of speech, just letting people know they are on the same page.

P.S. If you dont think Twitter is used as a PR tool, I'd have to disagree. Most people do probably mean what they say in casual conversation, but this isn't casual conversation.

there have been a lot of quotes over the last 2-3 seasons from I believe morgan, gore and VD where they show confidence in alex.. And they see lots of positives from him in PRACTICE, so they know he can do it, they are just waiting for him TO do it.

The double standards never end on Niner talk. Anything positive said about Alex is "oh it's PR..he's just saying that...what else is he gonna say." I could just imagine the jizz fest some would have if Vernon said this about Nate Davis.

I'm interested to see how these Alex Smith run practices go. With Vernon there on Monday, it should provide some more legitimacy.

I'm rooting for Smith to take command and be the player-coach. This whole lockout may be blessing in disguise if Smith can manage to instill most of the concepts of the new offense and gaining trust and continuity with his teammates (exception, Crabtree). It also presents a good foundation for Kaepernick to see and build upon.

Think of how bad our situation would be if Smith wasn't helping out a team that he is not under contract with!?!

Smith may not be a good QB, but he is a good guy and he has class, so I wouldn't be worried about that.
