is he died?

Nah, just his career
He dropped in the draft because of a back injury. Now, he has a ruptured disk in his neck. He should retire because paralysis is not worth a year or two more playing.

Remember Chris Dalman. Another good lineman lost to neck injury.

Good thing we drafted those two RTs to convert to guard. Now we have to resign Baas and Wragge becomes the primary backup at Center and can swing to guard.

Staley
Iupati
Baas
Rachal
Davis

with

Boone,
Wragge
2 rooks
Snyder as the backups

Snyder can play tackle in a pinch
Is Newberry still available??
I don't really get why he's only just now having surgery for an injury that occurred early in last years training camp, I suppose it got worse.

Sucks though, looks like he's done, at least as a niner.

I don't like the leverage that this gives Baas' agent.

Yeah, I see pretty big money in Baas' future.

Agreed. We have to remember that this guy only put in one good year at center and I have a feeling he's going to aim high considering the aforementioned leverage.

I want him back to see what he has in his second year at the position, but only for the right price.

If not send him packing.

Most likely he was waiting to see if it would get better on its own. That's the kind of surgery you want to avoid if you can. Also, once he has the surgery, the 2011 season is lost and there's a good chance he'll never play again. So he gives it a few months and hopes it heals on its own. If that doesn't work out, then Plan B is to have the surgery and try to make a comeback as a Free Agent in 2012. Plan C is retirement.

Agree he's probably done as a Niner. He's a stand up guy and gave it everything he had. Sorry he had to play through so many sh**ty seasons. Just as the franchise is finally turning the corner, his body is giving out.
