Heitmann is unlikely to play football in 2011 after undergoing neck surgery recently. It will be Heitmann's second lost season in a row; he missed 2010 with a fractured left fibula and the neck complications. The latest surgery was to repair a ruptured disk in the neck. (Free agent David Baas just got more leverage.) Heitmann's timetable for recovery has been optimistically set at six months. His agent says Heitmann's "hopes are to play as soon as he's cleared."

f**k...

I can live with Baas at C, but Rachal at RG?
Re-signing Baas just became critical!

Nah.... Anthony Davis moves to RG.... Alex Boone is our new starting RT.

I have foreseen it... it is inevitable.

at age 31, always injured and a no show for a 2nd season? My guess is that he's done wearing a 49ers uniform.
His career is over now, clearly. Said it before, will say it again, he just had too many injuries to really even be an effective player anymore even as a back-up.

Now with this, his career is over. He needs to focus on his health and family, etc. -- We don't need Heitmann.
If Wragge is re-signed, that gives us three players behind Baas that can play center: Kilgore, Snyder, Wragge.

As it stands, without Heitmann, we still have plenty of depth and our line would probably be: Staley, Boone, Iupati, Kilgore, Person, Baas, Rachal, Snyder, and Davis -- That's 9, and usually teams keep 9 or 10. If we want to keep 10, Sims and Wragge are options.

LT: Staley, Boone
LG: Iupati, Kilgore, M.Person
C: Baas, Snyder, Kilgore
G: Snyder, Rachal, Kilgore
RT: Davis, Snyder
Mad Dog will be bummed.

I don't like the leverage that this gives Baas' agent.

Right. This could get expensive. Baas had a better year than I, and others expected. That, plus the fact the need issue is now much greater could cost the 49ers a couple million bucks more.
Why did he wait so long to undergo the surgury. He had neck pain last year and he just went under the knife!?!?!

His career is probably over, it wasn't a bad career for a sixth round pick.

Thanks for you services, now get healthy and enjoy the rest of your life.

Yeah, I see pretty big money in Baas' future.

Who cares the cap will be higher, we are way under cap as it is.

bet he becomes a good coach after he recovers/retires

g/l Heitmann

I think they go with Wragge as the 9th, and move Person to the PS
Im not a fan of Wragge as the backup C, but Snyder has zero exp, and Kilgore a rookie, If Baas were to get hurt, I'd want someone who's played there at NFL leval
