same martz who said JTO was the best qb he ever coached

Same Martz who got Shaun Hill performing very well when Martz was regulated by Singletary.

Could you have predicted JTO would be fumbling the ball every other play?
JTO was a "teaser horse" that was never intended to be the full time QB. He was familiar with Martz' system having come from Detroit where they worked together. Martz needed a QB that knew the system for TC that could run the plays so the other players could learn it. Then the week that Martz said Alex was ready to take over the job, he re-injured his shoulder...and the rest is history.

the 1 positive that i can think of if mm was still OC is that norris would have no place here.

Martz was very effective when matched with Dick Vermeil who held him in check and Martz pushed back enough against Vermeil so he didn't go all Woody Hayes on him. They were a very good pair.

That formula could have worked well with the 49ers except it is now obvious that Sing wanted no part of that type of offense or type of relationship with his OC.
Look at the Chiefs. Even though Haley had experience as an offensive coordinator, he was still smart enough to bring in assistants who had won at their respective coaching spots. Weis and Crennell may have failed as head coaches but had been very successful in the NFL. Raye may have had success with players toting the rock when they really used rocks but he fit Sings run it mindset so here we are, looking to rebuild again.
Can't put this all on Sing though, Jed could have waited and seen who else was available and we could be talking about Shanahan or Holmgren right now.
It's just too bad that the Cowboys didn't hire Sing, they deserve him.
I'd like to see the new staff include Wade Phillips as DC, maybe the Cards fire Whisenhunt and we can plug him in at OC

It would be interesting to see what the Niner offense would look like IF Martz had remained here. One could argue that the offense would be light years ahead of what we currently see...............or we could still be stuck with JTO...

That being said, I'd still take Martz with WHOEVER at QB over the horrible offense that Sing and Raye have tried to install.

vermeil>>>>singletary

we saw small progress under mm i don't think he will ever change his ways.
as the game changes a coach/coordinator should be able to do the same at some level. I'm not saying martz can not adjust to the game I'm saying he doesn't want to his system doesn't need such adjustments. just like the HC here he just don't wanna do it. here's a couple of examples, back in the days of "the greatest show" this joker(mm) designed a play for mallamanueama(sp) beautiful fade to the right side line with no defender in site against our beloved 9ers i was disgusted and awed at the same time. skip ahead some years to when he ran a reverse to vd gain almost 20 yards not a big gain but showed what a good player could do if given the opportunity. idk i really don't but it seems as if he really doesn't want to bend regardless of talent on the team. look at olsen, he's on pace to get 40 rec that's right on pace with what his system dictates he even said it himself (please don't ask me to find the link)

you would think that any OC would jump at the chance to use any weapon they could as much as possible right? the redzone where mm has been historically bad, a tweak in philosophy would help. im sure he has the ability to to work a healthy amount of plays and personnel packages that don't involve a 7 step drop or 3+ wr ALL THE TIME. im sure if he wanted to he could orchestrate something different. hell, we've seen him do it at times when pushed. i don't think he wants to and i don't think think you should have to force a OC to use all the tools available either.

like i said im biased
