That isn't to say he was 100% responsible for it though. The protection on that play was not there, at all, and it forced him to make that decision.

It was the same kind of play Troy just made a week ago but it was ruled a forward pass. He was lucky, Alex was not. A split second was the difference. A split second extra for Alex it it ends up being an incomplete pass that we all forgot about. A split second less for Troy and his had is not moving forward and it ends up being a fumble and a turn over.

As for the Philly game, Alex was the only reason that game was close. Even with the INT and that fumble going back for 6 they were down by three with less than two minutes to go. That was with the porous D letting Philly run all over them and Frank Gore losing two fumbles to end two promising drives and a 2.9 YPC himself.

Eh, Alex made a stupid mistake that he shouldn't have. It's on him, IMO.

He helped put us in the hole, then he helped us crawl out... almost. Story of the first half of the season.

It was always a team effort in the end, though. Nature of the sport.

TURNOVERS

::sigh::

Ok, one last go....

Last three games for both they have the same. Three.

Troy Smith has 79 pass attempts over the last three games. Alex had 91 attempts in his last three, even though it was really only two and a half games.

Edge Alex.

That one was easy, but please... no more.

I don't recall T. Smith throwing ints in the red zone and pick 6s and fumble 6s.

Alex's passer rating in the red zone was very good from what I remember.

Alex's last and only turnover in the redzone was in 2006. His stats in the red zone is 19 TDs 0 INTs since 06.

He has fumbles and ints but not in the red zone.

I seem to remember several people trying to figure out how to get him to translate that to the rest of the field. If only...

Only thing I can think of is to use a scheme like the Rams are for Bradford. They really shorten the field in the passing game for him. That could simulate the redzone... a little... maybe.

they already shortened the field with the run run run punt play calling.

NFL quality pass protection. Even average pass protection would be a huge step forward. It doesn't have to be 4 and 5 seconds every down like Brady gets. Just average protection would go a long way.

Also, stop the D from giving up big leads early so we have to play from behind.

Those two things should do it.

You're making it too easy. David Carr could succeed if that happened.

We suck.

Haha. I just had an image of Alex throwing a jump ball from the twenty to the 39 and VD toe-tapping to keep it "in bounds".

That play was definitely on Alex. But people forget that he played flawless before then, and we were STILL down by 7 when it happened. Then he got us within a field goal by the end by playing flawless again. The Philly loss was definitely a full team breakdown, making Kolb look that good was inexcusable.

our defense makes every QB look like HOF QB's. Every player in the NFL always has a career day against our weak push over defense. Alex Smith isn't the problem the defense is.
Alex Smith's lack of ability to make plays when it matters was a major factor in this team starting the season 0-5.

Btw: Whats his career passer rating on 3rd down? How often does he convert those 3rd downs vs taking the safe checkdown pass that results in a punt.
